mmorpg set in space with ships and stuff. one of my mates is well into it, but it's a game i just couldnt get into

Aye,

Big space trading/mining/fighting RPG type game where real people run the economy. Skills train in real time so you 'progress' even when you're not playing, but have no real control over how fast you 'level up'.

Found it a bit dull, but as a social experiment it seemed like it was very interesting.

For me, it looked like I'd need to invest lots & lots of time to get my £10 a month out of it and I just wasn't that grabbed by it. Shame really.

Not really 250k though, I don't think the server's been over 50k and a load of people play multiple accounts.

It can take up a lot of your time if you get well into it though, or you can just play casually and not really fall behind because of the skill training system, only problem would be money.

The best thing about Eve was the 'fps' count being above 300.

I've given it multiple goes - i like it, but quickly get bored.

I'm tempted to give it a go, but with a 'real time' skill up system, is it ever possible to catch up?

Seems massively complex, must be bloody hard to get a hang of and understand wtf is going on.

You'd never catch up and become competitive with the ubers that have been around since the start in all aspects, but each skill only has 5 levels you could quite easily specialise in a certain area and compete with the long serving players.

So far it doesn't strike me as being important. There's missions for every skill level, and the learning curve is such that it's always interesting.

these are games for people who are afraid of daylight and talking to real people

just been playing. a few hours is enjoyable but i dont really see the pull to keep going or why you would pay monthly

I think if I was playing on my own I'd probably feel the same way but I've got a mate who has been playing it for a couple of years with some of his mates, and they've got this huge corporation. They're currently building a base in wormhole-space

Anyway, they've been helping me out and advising me. I've finished all the tutorial missions and the Epic Arc now, so I'm getting to the point where I can help them out a bit and I've got a feeling it's just about to get really crazy.
