Sooner it happens the better. Will be a novelty for a few years, then fans will soon get sick of the same formula, same teams and how many clubs fans can afford away trips to Paris one weekend, Rome the next etc. After 3 or 4 seasons the idea would fall apart and the clubs who breakaway should be made to start from the bottom of the pyramid. No playing games alongside a domestic campagin either. It should be one or the other.
Bang on, if no one subscribes to who ever gets the tv rights it won’t last a season and we get rid of Man U the bin dippers Spurs City and Chelsea along with Arsenal who cheated their way into the league in the first place. Could be a great day for real fans supporting local teams

See. It is a game. Its not monopoly but a game nonetheless. Show me one single goal for Spurs scored by a wad of £20 notes. Money has won you nothing.
Listen mate I have had a season ticket at Spurs for many decades my 2 boys are 24 and 25 and have had season tickets for 21 years I have 5 season tickets in total at Spurs, I know all about football both on and off the pitch, my family are frlends with 2 board members, fact is in the modern game money talks virtually any successful football team near the top of the football pyramid are backed by owners money or money generated by the club itself if they are big enough to do so.

Lack of money is obviously why Sunderland have struggled recently as soon as Short stopped subsidising Sunderland the shit hit the fan unfortunately for your fans and your great club, and you are still trying to recover from that scenario.

can someone explain, in simple terms, how clubs like man united, real madrid, barcelona etc.. the biggest clubs in the world, the most recognisable, the most marketable, the most popular, the clubs that generate the most money in the game, are all in massive amounts of debt ?

between them they must generate billions upon billions of pounds each year, surely they don't spend that much on players wages and transfers?

how are they financially managed so poorly?
Mainly because the owners didn't buy the club's and used huge loans to do so and use the profit to pay off the interest on loans and line their own pockets. Obviously ridiculous player wages etc come into it as well and lots of other things.

They also seem to get loans on top of loans to pay the loans off and that just snowballs into mass amounts of debt.

Simply put the owners want to own the club's and finance them, take money out of them but put nothing in. Absolute parasites.

I don't think it does mate, City pull out and the show still goes on IMO. It's not about having the 'best teams' in there or there would be a few in the queue before Arsenal & Spurs.
its not the best teams, its the richest. its 11 of the top 14, the 3 missing are bayern, dortmund and psg. plus milan who, although shit and skint at the minute, can still be classed as one of the biggest based on their history.

So will the transfer market still work with the league? Will it be trades like the American sports? Or are they expecting to slum it with the mortals in the domestic leagues and then jet off mid week and complain about too many games in the season.

They will though. There's an appetite for this worldwide, there's been a fairly positive response from this from fans outside of the UK.

Let them have their international franchise sport, but don't let them be part of the English football pyramid.
<Checks schedules> Brighton, Southampton, Villa and Everton?
2 out of 4

Liverpool fans don't want them being part of it. Most of the other clubs real fans probably don't want it either. That is probably certain.
It does not take away from the fact that the PL is 100% responsible for the current state of English football. The excessive greed of the clubs who started it, greed is correct because they wanted the biggest piece of the pie, is what caused the massive debts throughout football. Any club that had a desire to progress had to compete with those higher up financially. The PL drove them costs up.
All the talk about improving the standard of English football was bullshit. The national team is no better.
Like it or not the actions of those clubs who started the PL have led to this.
The CL drove the cost of competing with the top end of the PL up. PL payout differentials positional wise are next to nowt in the grand scheme of things. Finishing 4th then making the PL group stages is a massive financial gain over finishing 5th.

I do not support Sunderland. I came on here during the virtual ticket fundraising and discovered it was enjoyable.

Said it a lot earlier in this thread yesterday but this has NFL model written all over it. There will be salary caps, players coming into the league will be owned by the Super League and 'distributed' to clubs within. I have no idea in what world they can just invite 5 other clubs on an annual basis, without them being kicked out of their respective leagues and the whole mess it will cause with player contracts.

It can't possibly work under the current circumstances, it would have to be a complete break-away without considering 5 other teams.

The global condemnation of it makes you think it won't happen but a lot of people said that when Farrage first stood in front of the EU and told them he would bring the UK out of it... It still happened.

that's true.Anf the cricketers who went to SA also got banned. It'll still be a legal frenzy.
Don't think it would.
The ESL are separate and can and want to make their own law changes/ technology changes.
They could be playing under different rules.
Probably bigger goals so more are scored for the American audience
Similar to rugby league and Union , league players can't play for England RU

I am not your mate.

You know absolutely fuck all. Short spent an absolute fortune on SAFC and spent it horrendously. He took over when we were in the prem, spent a fortune, lost a fortune, gave the club away and left us in league one. Why comment on something you have no idea about.

'oh I have friends on the board' woopy fuckin doo that might impress the other cockney virgins down your local wine bar but no one gives a fuck here.

Have yourself a double relegation and 4 seasons in the third tier and come back and tell us how many fans you have then and how much of a big club you are.

The second you aren't competing at the top of the premier League the toys are out of the pram, if you had anywhere close to what we have been served up you'd have an empty stadium every match.

The only thing it's got to do with money is that we had too much of it through the door and had thick fuckers in charge of spending it

Capitalism in a nutshell.

To be fair that sounds even more like it’s a non starter. If only Real, Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal are on board and the others are really using it to hammer UEFA then an about turn is still possible.

Barca fans still have to vote on it as they are member owned

I was listening to the radio this morning here in Catalonia. Apparently it does not have to be approved by the members assembly, though some board members feel they have the moral duty to do so. If they can vote, I imagine they would say no. Which fan wants to be on board a vessel captained by Florentino Perez.

4 or the 6 greed league members are apparently carrying quite a bit of debt

Hypothetically could City and Chelsea accept punishments from the PL and the FA join up with the remaining 14 teams and dump Liverpool, United, Tottenham and Arsenal from the Premier League to the Vanarama National League or lower

From an invest to win completions point of view whatever fine both clubs get hit with would be nothing to the cost of not competing with these 4 clubs for 5+ years

If it happens I can see them still buying players for cash from non ESL clubs.
But I can also see players being encouraged to run down their contracts at non ESL clubs then going into a US style draft system with all that yellow tied twattishness taking part on a separate biggest night in football display of idiocy on live TV. I’ve probably just given them an idea havent I?

The whole 5 invites on domestic performance is pretty stupid, if the team that gets invited and finishes 1st are they permanent or will they be uninvited because of domestic performance?
