European Football Thread 2018/19

Valencia continued their good run on Wednesday night with a home win against Real Madrid. That win put them 5th, albeit temporarily as Sevilla won last night. They're right in the hunt for the final CL place though. You'd expect Getafe and Alaves will run out of steam and there are a few bigger fish waiting to pounce.

Interestingly down at the bottom there are still two teams I'd say have far too much quality to be relegated, yet seem to have a habit of snatching defeat (or a draw) from the jaws of victory. Villarreal squandered a 4-2 injury time home lead vs Barca to draw 4-4 after Alvaro was sent off and Celta threw away a 2-0 lead at Huesca to be 3-2 down, before rescuing a late draw. There are a few teams hovering above that are catchable like Real Valladolid who are on a bad run of 1 win in 9.
Getafe seem to be pretty strong. Hope they get in. Still got Barca & real to play though

Their two centre forwards have been terrific, especially Jaime Mata who hadn't played any top flight football before this season. The two of them have a combined age of 66 but the experience seems to be having an impact! Molina seems to be a bit of an Aduriz as he is getting better the older he gets!

Would be massive if a new team could break into the UCL. Financially that is. Fancy Valencia for it though.

Another shite performance for Napoli. Ancelotti is seriously lucky that the Milan and Rome clubs are all having poorer seasons than expected, Arsenal really should be beating them in the Europa League

Valencia did a Valencia and after going to Sevilla and winning and then beating RM at home they go to second bottom Rayo and lose.

SPAL 2013 2-1 Juventus. Must have been something dodgy here.

Going into the game Juventus were at 6/5 to beat SPAL & they ended up going 1-0 up and throwing it away. Looked abit strange to me pre game.

Canny race for 4th in Serie A at least. Just 4 points separating Milan in 4th and Lazio in 8th

Torino and Atalanta both in with a very real chance of getting 4th given how bad Milan and the Rome clubs are

Girona 1-0 Sevilla

Massive chance for Getafe to go 3 ahead with 2 games left (and hold H2H over Sevilla). Also Valencia losing today too.

Massive result at the bottom of the table too. Girona looked like they were finished & going down.

Huge result for Schalke in the derby yesterday. Sees them almost safe from the relegation play-offs and probably ended Dortmund's title hopes along with it

Mental end to the Nurnberg v Bayern game Nurnberg missed an 90th minute penalty then Coman burst through 1 on 1 in the 94th minute but the keeper saved finished 1-1

Dortmund's title hopes still alive for now then. Bayern still have Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt to play as well

We’re in Valencia this weekend with friends so we went to the match today - Valencia were pretty disappointing to be honest, although had a couple of good chances second half. Was funny to see Eibar’s away fans (all 12 of them .....I counted:lol:) getting behind their team. Seems weird that Spanish fans don’t travel in any kind of numbers to away games - despite some of the distances?
