Europe Energy Prices

Are the European countries experiencing price hikes at the same level as we are?
Don't want to turn this into a Brexit rant as there are loads of threads for that, but I just wondered if it is only us that is going through this pain?

Up yes but no where near as much(when I last looked).
And we are essentially subsidising French consumers. As we sold of so much of our retail supply to the French (EDF) they can charge us to fuck and keep it down for them.
EDF made profits in U.K. but losses in their French nuclear business.

Ours has gone up a bit but not as much as the Uk - we're getting price drops from March as well.

Different set up though - heating is one central company which is what went up - electricity and water havent changed

Most of our so called privatised utility companies are in the hands of foreigners. The UK energy prices should be much lower due to wind power. The National disgrace of water companies pumping sewage into rivers and the sea, yet paying huge dividends to their shareholders. I understand that water rates would be hugely cheaper as a result of being renationalised. Labour are proposing setting up a National Energy Company to counter the energy rip off merchants.

Stephen Flynn said in parliament this week that "the wholesale Gas price is now 75% lower than at its peak" yet our prices will rise 20% in April, the energy companies are being allowed to mug the public and the reason for that is the amount of extra VAT raised is why. I bet a few of the tories get cushy consultancy roles when they lose their seats at the GE.

My utility bill (gas/electricity) was:

November: £220
December: £260
January: £423

How the hell do they expect ordinary people to manage with price hikes like that. Really sticks in the throat seeing energy companies posting record profits, bumper dividends and sky high bonuses. The usual apologists will claim it helps your pension. It may well do but to a far lesser extent than it costs you month to month paying these ever increasing bills.

My electric is £300 and gas is £234.

Managed to lowere the DD for gas ti £190 but it won't let me drop the electric . Got panels now so that needs to be £200 max ..

Hopefully they will start seeing me in decent credit and allow me to adjust

My electricity bill went up for the first and only time back in December but has dropped by the same third again for the March bill. So back to normal on that.

My water and heating is regulated once a year each February and the one they just did shows that I have paid more than I have used. Getting an entire month's (full) rent back plus a couple hundred kroner more. Was the same last February. Apart from the December electricity bill I have barely noticed any change in energy bills at all. Helps that our District Heating is owned by us all and that they are non-profit so the prices are always pretty low.

My TV package is going up by 150 kroner a month from April though. I pay more for that than I do electricity or heating.

Denmark as always, a beacon of how to run a country for the benefit of the people and not corporations. How do I seek political asylum there?

 Not sure about being a beacon. And Denmark is probably a bit too Socialist for some. But it seems to work.

The District Heating doesn't yet cover all the country though so we also have people here suffering from higher oil or gas prices. But the District Heating system is wonderful and is being spread out more and more by each week at the moment.

My DD went up yesterday to £290. I changed it, but cannot go lower than £230.
I was £90 when I moved into this hour 4 years ago.

How this isn't being fixed it beyond me. Storage levels are high, supplies are high, wholesale costs are low.

From my smart meter.
Jan 2022 our Gas was 2635kwh = £72.08. Jan 2023. 1541kwh = £165
Jan 2022 Electric 236kwh = £45.28. Jan 2023. 237kwh = £90.83
We have cut down massively on Gas, we would leave the heating on all day even when we were out and have it on overnight, now it's on a couple of hours in the morning and then on from 5 pm til 11 pm
I switched to lower-watt bulbs, and bought electric blankets, they are brilliant BTW
