"Entitled to go down"

Not actually sure what point you're trying to make here.

I'll assume you've realised the error of your ways at least ;)

No, it's more a case of people who answer a question with just abuse, as you originally did before your edit/edition, can't debate and, therefore, lose before even starting ;)

If you'd have given an example, like makumstu did, then maybe I could realise the error of my ways.

I gave you a clue (and even pointed out I was doing so) and you've taken it no further.

What's that about can't debate? ;)

Your original reply was "seems that way" (after putting my text of "I might be plain stupid...." in bold, you then edited it and "threw me a bone" - this is why I haven't took it further :)

However, to reply to the example that was given...to me, it's still not a foul, as such, if I tell a player/referee to fuck off. It is an offence by the laws of the game, but not a foul. A foul is when something happens physically in the game which is against the laws of the game.

There's no accounting for precious souls.

Okay, a player deliberately lunges in with both feet off the ground and studs showing, a potential leg breaker to the opposing player. Said player sees the challenge coming, and rather wisely manages to evade the challenge, as his only alternative was a nasty injury.

No foul?

The annoying thing about Hansen saying this is that he would have been livid if he had given away a soft penalty along the lines that he is advocating. Then he will complain next week about challenges being outlawed in the game etc etc.

I would say not a foul, as it didn't actually happen. But I would say it is an offence.

Suppose it depends on the definition of the word, to be fair.

Bit thrown off by the title, thought it had something to do with the Mags being relegated.

But agree with you, Flick, heard both in the international commentary today and the Bale comments afterward this sense that you're entitled to go down if you feel contact. Utter nonsense, that's still "simulation," and thus dishonest garbage.

Defoe and Bale are cheats.

Bale is obviously embarrassed as he has form for diving and cheating and has been caught again. His dive for the contact, minimal as it was, was truly pathetic.

Gareth Bale: "People keep saying I'm diving, but if there's contact it's not diving. Referees need to look more closely."

Erm, unless I'm mistaken, "contact" does not equal "foul". Football isn't a non-contact sport. You can't foul, but you can make contact with someone perfectly legitimately.

Falling to the ground because you feel any contact *IS* Diving == Cheating.

Bale's comments have annoyed me and I hope it is something I never hear a Sunderland player say. Rose, Sess and Larrson have gone over easily in key positions a couple of times this season and I've been embarrassed.

The message managers and refs should be putting out is, that it is their duty to try and stay on their feet no matter what. If they are fouled and don't get an advantage, then the ref should be on the ball enough to pull play back.

One thing that really spoils top flight football for me, is the lack of flow of a game. I'd much rather see a free flowing game with a couple of minor clips that do not even come close to injuring a player, than see a minute of football followed by free kick after free kick. If I wanted to watch a number of set pieces with players perfectly positioned for each setup, I would watch American football or cricket.

When did this come into the game?

If a 6' plus bloke can't shrug off a passing nudge, he shouldn't be playing a physical contact sport.

Entitled my arse.

Walcott and Aguera showing what can be done if you just get on with it and play like a man.

Entitled my arse, stupid comments like this just encourage diving, Defoe should have been booked anarl. Bale is a cheating twat looking to justify his actions.

there was way more "contact" on Bale a couple of minutes earlier when he set up the stumbling Defoe for the stumbling Mig save - but magically he managed to stay on his feet (outside the box). Its really simple for me, nobody has changed the rules. If the (talented) **** had done that on the village green when we were playing as bairns he would have been nailed to a gravestone and left to ponder on the error of his ways. ITS CHEATING - stop trying to call it something else.

This all day and Bale is admitting it! As for Hansen "the referee gets it DRAMATICALLY wrong"!!! It was obvious to everybody that the fall was "manufactured" even though the contact needed slowmo to show up

It's strange how different cultures look upon things like this differently. As someone previously said in South America a dive is appreciated as a skill. Much in the same way you hear people in this country describe a foul as clever or someone can get a "good booking" it's all cheating.

Pundits always say this crap, "If you're running at top speed and you get touched you can't stop going down" really ? So why is it Rugby players run at full pelt get tackled by 18 stone men and stay up ?
