"Entitled to go down"

if he'd dragged him back or touched his feet, which impedes his run then he dives to tell the ref he's been fouled, that's fine but he let his legs go like jelly takes the risk he won't be fouled as is what happened

The contact debate is utter rubbish. Contact does not equal a foul.

The penalty Dzeko got against us at the Etihad from Gardner was never a penalty. Gardner tried to get out of the way but Dzeko made sure his leg touched Gardner's and then went down.

How anyone can argue Gardner fouled Dzeko then is a fool. But the pundits were reeling out the usual "he touched him so it was a penalty" rubbish. You would think these ex player pundits had never actually played football before.

I remember watching Laurence Dallaglio still moving forward with 3 or 4 shaved apes hanging off him, they should get the video tape of that then beat the living piss out of any fruity pundit that comes out with shite like that . No the wonder football's fucked......

The difference I suppose is Dallaglio et al are trained to stay on their feet and carry on running, where this lot of namby pambies are actually coached when and how to go to ground.

Sunderland are crap at all this "professional" gamesmanship.

Agreed - we're one of the least cynical teams in the league. That's not why we're in the position we're in, not by any means, but when we're less talented AND less cynical than a team we're playing against then it gives us a mountain to climb!

As someone posted in another thread on the subject. Look at how fast Rugby wingers run and are ankle tapped they tend to stumble and even stay on their feet sometimes. The way footballers go down from a "clip" is completely unnatural.

A lot of these Rugby wingers are actually travelling faster than footballers and I don't recall seeing one collapse like that from a "clip".

Funnily enough, the best player I've seen do it for us is Rose...a spurs player!

Something I have noticed over the last few games is how good Colback is at drawing a foul from the opposition to ease the pressure.

It would be interesting to see footage of bale/Suarez etc playing 5 aside on a hard surface where falling over f***ing knacks, bet the soft cheating bastards never go down with that amount of contact.

The thing about gareth bale is if you attempt to hack him over in the middle of the park, he just brushes off the opposing player with ease......people just bounce off him.....yet as soon as he's in the penalty area he's got the stability of bambi in stilettos.......no the wonder refs think he's trying to con them........

It's depressing how widespread cheating is now, when people make up phrases like that to excuse diving.

Absolutely this.

In the first half near the dugouts he was fouled but the ball ran well for him as he was stumbling but managed to keep his feet and bounce of another player to continue his run towards our goal.

If that was near the edge of our box or in the box he would have went down like a bag of shite.

That is why I believe referees judge fouls differently in the penalty area.

For me, this is absolutely the correct answer.

I don't understand how a player can be moving at pace and be clotheslined (arm across chest) but fall forwards. Surely he should be falling backwards

I haven't read this thread so please forgive me if I'm making a point that has already been made.

It you try to knock a sportsman over when he is running at full pelt then you have to put in a serious challenge. Makes me sick when I see players falling over under very little pressure. Makes a mockery of the sport.

I know our players do it as well but that's no excuse.

Makes you question why you bother getting worked up about things. Athletes throwing themselves to the floor. What a joke.

or spun around at least. Watch how he (and others) twist their own ankles as they're going to ground man, they're coached to do it.

The South Americans even applaud a good dive and actually think it's a good attribute for a player to be able to dive.
