English Cricket Bowled Over With £400m Private Equity Bid For The Hundred

Bit surprising that someone would bid ao much money for a 75% stake in a format that the majority of cricket fans dislike.

If they are on the level then this kind of money would be hard to turn down although it looks like the ECB have rejected it for the time being.

Makes alot of money, and future investment

But it also means that they’re at the mercy of the investor.

At present the ECB can balance the financials of the 100 against the broader interests of English cricket (don’t laugh). Eg leaving the comp in a short, sharp block to limit the impact on tests. Or balancing the media deal so that free to air gets a decent chunk of it and spreads the game.

Depends on what they want for the money.

Better overseas players ?

Availability of Centrally Contracted players ?

How about another 20 balls per innings ?

If this is a runner, we are most definitely stuck with the 16.4 and as @NorthCountryBoy points out, at the mercy of the investor/sponsor. He who pays the piper and all that. Can’t see the ECB and (depending what’s in it for them) the counties turning it down.

That’s a lot of money for something that…..

•Loses money.
•Has already seen a noticeable dip in quality and interest.
•Only does modest TV numbers.
•Won’t be the the number 1 product across all sports in the market at the time it’s played.
•Doesn’t own any commodities.

Its coming like, undecided if this is a good thing or not, at least with the ECB in charge we have a say at the table, I mean the counties did vote for the 100 like

It will only be a matter of time before this happens mind

Good job the Yorkshire grocer and Harrison weren't still in charge as they'd have already drawn up the contract and deal done.

Could this be another Stanford? I don't understand why somebody would put this amount of money into county cricket. The Hundred is supposedly making a loss, interest is down 20% if the TV viewing figures are anything to go by. The IPL it is not. Not even close and it never will be however much money is thrown at it.

I am not sure the first bit is acurate like, they believedin the 100 more than the current chairman and would be more likely to have faith it could increase inv value and attract higher bids

Private equity firms arent mugs they will believe their is value and growth in this.

It will happen at some stage its purely down to whether the ECB think they can get more in a few years

Also the counties would absolutely vote for this if given the choice

still think people are burying their head in the sand abit.

£400 million! It’s fair to say that is a lot of money.

A lot of money from outside cricket been possibly put into English cricket is not to be sneezed at, and although all of it needs to be checked through it could be a good thing.

Been saying for a while the most disappointing thing about the competition up to now has been the lack of the very top international cricketers playing it like they do the IPL.

This could improve it which in turn could really attract audiences to the game which again is the good thing?

If they can somehow add another 20 balls to it and play it as T20 as well all the better.

Having the world top cricketers playing in the height of the summer in England in a short format competition is very attractive prospect and always has been imo.
