Yeah but the point about keeping Buttler at 7 is the exact same point you make for moving Bairstow up the order



He has been good abroad like, he just hasn't played in a while

Woakes is older than Stokes remember, people forget that, long term I see Stokes with new ball


I am also unsure what to do with Curran, we woldn't have won the series without him, but also not sure he is good enough to be in the side as a bowler, away from home

He was terrible in India. Could be wrong but can't remember him having a massive impact abroad with the ball. Broad and Anderson did most the damage in South Africa, no? (He did plenty of damage with the bat of course!)

I don't know about Curran either. I think we have to have a look at him and see what he can do. I think he can turn into a decent bowler abroad because he threatens the stumps. He's skiddy so in theory he should be able to reverse it too. But his pace... It's just not quick enough. He needs 5mph, at least. He can get it, still young - but at his height he can't afford to be that slow.

Some people just want to find faults rather than looking at the positives and talent on offer and just enjoy.

For example before the summer both Kohli and Buttler two of the most talented crickerters around were getting criticised.

One could not play in English conditions, because off a series 4 years ago, when it was clear imo, that he had improved massively since then and was a brilliant talent.

Another brilliant talent Buttler his selection was laughed at by some as a ridiculous decision.

When what was ridiculous is that people could not see his clear talent.

I prefer to watch brilliant talent than look for faults all the time

True, I also believe people think test wins don't count as much in England because the ball moves a bit, the true test is on a flat pitch apparently. And also if you win a test without a 100 from your top 3, it also doesn't count as much

England's strength is their all rounders, incredibly talented side, people don't like to praise that though

Yeah I agree with that it has been really difficult for our openers in this series, but it has been for their openers as well, as it would have been for all international test sides in them conditions.

So that's just enjoy it for what it is!!

If people look at the bigger picture, we are favourites for the World Cup have a brilliant one day side, as well as a very good T20 side, and a very good test side.

We should be enjoying that!

Nice to know I'm in your every thought, but you really should tag me if you want a quicker response. His 69 at Aegeas was a better innings than Trent Bridge, btw.

Buttler is very nicely going about shoving my opinion right up my arse, and fair play to him. I know in your world that is a dagger through the heart of anyone who has ever criticised him, but I'm delighted. I hope he can do it long term.

I think we were spoilt with Strauss's team, which is probably the best most consistent team we have ever had, that top 6 just churned out runs

I'm beginning to give Bayliss the benefit of the doubt.

He may well have faults but the problem is that County Cricket isn't producing the players he needs. Maybe rather than shuffling deckchairs someone at the ECB needs to think about structure and it's impacts on the Test team.

Doesn't the Test team fund the ECB? The balance held by the ECB used to be around £80m it was said but now it's closer to £8m with the ECB putting all it's efforts into The Hundred when at the same time County Cricket already has a problem.

So has he squeezed his way into the Sri Lanka squad given that he still hadn’t done enough before this test? Just asking a straightforward question that’s all.

Bored of hearing this excuse. People said the same about the ODI team in 2015, all it took was the right coach. Sadly that coach sucks balls in the longer format.

The batting is so bad we need to pack the team with all rounders so we last long enough to grind out one or two lower order partnerships and a respectable score. He's failed to replace all bar one of the specialist batsmen from our no.1 ranked team. We've got two Matt Priors, two Flintoffs and two Bresnans though.

On the bowling front, still far too dependent on Jimmy and Broad and it's still pot luck which Moeen turns up. Rashid isn't a test cricketer.

We need a good long format coach who knows county cricket, knows where the quality is and what his required to bring those players to international standard. We all know the lad, but the ECB didn't even approach him last time.

There isn't the quality in batting hence why we have two Matt Priors, two Flintoffs and two Bresnans though. You have to work with what you have got. Our batting isn't good enough because the players at our disposal aren't good enough. Just look at the runs being scored in county cricket? That should tell you what the problem is. having said that in England our batting is generally good enough because it gets us enough runs for our bowlers to win us test matches.

Absolutely.

And @smoker the team is packed with all-rounders because that's what CC is producing. Everyone's racking their brains trying to pick good opening batsmen perhaps the time has come to realise the problem isn't in the choosing it's in the choice.
