Eh? It’s a whole summer

What more fuckin evidence do you need

Root/Stokes have been shite the whole summer... Does that make them shit then?

Fucks sake, people can have a bad season and still be better overall. Buttler is a seven. Bairstow is a seven too.

By the way - a whole summer is still just seven tests, you plonker.

big swing but rash digs it out

198 for 7. I'm waiting to see India bat a bit before deciding but one thing i will say, barring weather this is 4-1 or 3-2

i need shami to give me a rub down with his leather after that last session.

night all

He hasn’t batted there his whole test Career man

ROot averages 12 more at 4

12!!!

Talking some shite here like
No but his whole career in county cricket which lead to his selection.

Root is more than capable of batting 3 but is having a tough time.

Buttler has faced more balls and has by the best record from defensive shots the whole summer

It’s almost like you think players can’t get better and improve

On your basis steve smith would still be batting 8!

Players improve!!!!!

Ali has batted his whole career at 3, he’s not a test number 3

That’s because he’s just not a good enough bat. Lots of players bat 3 in county cricket but doesn’t make them international cricketers.

Bairstow is an international test standard player and given our lack of options he needs to bat top 5.

As I said go back to 2010 time with that that stellar top 6 then he could take gloves and bat 7, no issue. We don’t have that luxury now I’m afraid.

Get gloves off him and tell him to get on with it.

Absolutely - scoring runs has been particularly hard for everyone all summer. Batting 3 or 4 is smoke and mirrors. Root has been out playing away from his body too much this season, its been shot selection and it doesn't matter whether he batting anywhere in the top 6 if he's making those choices hes not going to stay in.

I agree with this as well - Bairstow is too precious, he needs to work on getting his technique back to what it was a couple of years ago when he was more side on and scoring hundreds. Hes scoring poorly more because he has developed technical issues with his batting rather than whether or not he is 5 or 7. taking the gloves of him should focus his mind if he doesn't spit the dummy out.

Very much my point.

It certainly isn’t a technical or ability issue with him batting 3 or 4 but it could perhaps be a mental one which can in itself be just as important if not more.

With Cook going I’d say we have two genuine top 5 test cricketers in terms of batting and that’s Root and Bairstow.

For all stokes hasn’t set world alight he hasn’t had too many platforms to perform to his strengths either mind. Have to give props to Butler who hasn’t either mind but has really knuckled down.

I think Buttler is batting great at 7 - surely you don't want to move a player doing so well in his fixed position ;)

On what basis is Bairstow a top 5 test bat

Doesn’t Ali have 5 test 100s?

You’re all over the place

I was there today and it seems I have a different take to the experts. Swung all day, plenty of cloud around tomorrow yet It's "the best batting surface of the series and India could bat us out of the game". Yes we were shite as usual especially Root and Bairstow but they're no better as we've seen all series.

100s coming against attacks with very little pace. He gets bombed out whenever he comes up against genuine quicks which is why he’s not a top 5 test batsman.

Bairstow has 100s against New Zealand, Aussies and South Africa.

Once again very lazy with your use of stats.

You got to wonder if Stokes' difficulties have hurt his form. His cricket has been disjointed and he looks out of form - but battling to regain it.

Playing sport at top level with all that hanging over you can’t havd been easy.

Hopefully he’s learned his lesson.
