Raymond Illingworth? Was he placing a white hanky on a length and getting him to try and land the ball on it?Some old bloke, fairly sure it was the same bloke who was up last season for the Notts game looking at the pitch, name escapes me

At least the first 2 were edges....Good start from Jimmy. Just the 3 boundaries.

That's what I tell the lads when I edged every ball I face. Sadly most are inside edges into the stumps2nd one was premeditated like.
First time 12 runs have scored in the first over of a test in England was in 1969 - Sobers to Boycott, on BBC TMS
This is a comparison between the 6 names mentioned as spinners for England based on this season. He's just been dropped by Essex for poor form. 23 wickets in his last 9 games.
Slim f***ing pickings! Have we got T20 to blame for this? Or is it the early season start where spinners rarely get a twirl and most end up concentrating on their batting in order to get a game (Borthwick)This is a comparison between the 6 names mentioned as spinners for England based on this season.

Monty has the test pedigree and will be the only bowler cook will probably have any confidence in.
I completely agree but whats the point in having Ali as our main spinner if cook refuses to bowl him(I don't see this changing in this series)He's hardly knocking the door down though. I'd give Ali a run for now. Since India 2012 Panesar's record is terrible in tests.
Agree. That is why I believe the Captain should be part of the selection process, OR the coach makes the decisions on who bowls and when.I completely agree but whats the point in having Ali as our main spinner if cook refuses to bowl him(I don't see this changing in this series)
Who would you have selected? But we've not got a spinner
I'm not paid lots of money to decide these things, tbh I would have picked Ali and give him a chance but cook won't.Time to give Plunkett a bowl I think
Who would you have selected?
Egg on faceClarke would have made at least one bowling change by now
Ha ha. he would have though wouldn't he? Cook is terrified to upset Anderson and Broad by pulling them off prematurely (ooh missus) even when it's clear the plan isn't working.Great catch by prior
Egg on faceGreat jinx mind
