Where we crumble on the big stage the Germans thrive. Out we go

Not convinced of that like.
Anyway, it's irrelevant. The Germans understand it's not about individual players. It's all about Die Mannschaft.
Winner pretty much guaranteed a place in the final, Germany haven't been right for a few years, England will never have a easier chance of getting to the final, although they had the same easy draw at world cup and still managed to mess it up.
Yesterday that's exactly what was happening in reverse. Someone saying we got the job done but Germany scraped through/struggledThat’s some industrial levels of spin mind. I’d like to see England get similar credit for having the ball “in and around the penalty area” against a good team, or for “getting the job done” against a poor team (have they not just done that?)
We've only beaten the Dutch once since '96, and that was a friendly. They whipped us in the Nations League not so long back.
They've shown nothing to be afraid of IMO.
Funny how Germany are guaranteed to turn into world beaters in the knockouts despite looking ropey as fuck in the group, and England are guaranteed to stay as shite/get worse.
We couldn't beat Scotland TBF.Germany have been poor for about 4 years. Its not the easy tie people make it out to be ridiculously. They couldn't even beat hungary.
We will trouble them I think
Hmm debatable. I don't think Austria and the Ukraine are mugs like. We had the jocks FFS.
Out of 19 world cups they've reached the semi final or better 13 times.
9 out of 13 euros they've reached semi finals or better.
Ultimate tournament team. The mentality has been there for generations. The German FA are clearly very competent when it comes to national team affairs and they just do things right.
In Euro 2000 they came bottom of the group with 1 point. They scraped world cup qualification via the play offs after losing to England 5-1.
They reached the world cup final in 2002.
2004 euros exited at the group stage.
2006 world cup semi finalists though.
The world's most consistent tournament team.
We had the World Cup Finalists mate.
I don’t get how what they done in 2002 or 1982 or whatever has any bearing on anything now. Hate “stats” like that.
So they went
Out in groups
Final
Out in groups
Semi finals
That sounds like the opposite of consistency to me?
Euro 2000 when they were poor, they responded well.
2004 poor, responded well.
2018 poor...
The ethos of the German team/FA for 60+ years is built towards tournament football. They do things right.
The evidence is there
Well, this team looks as far removed in terms of ethos as any German team I’ve seen so I don’t see how what they done 20 years ago has any bearing.
I’m not saying we will win, I happen to think it’s very, very close and could go either way, although if I was a neutral I would expect England to win as there is no evidence that Germany are better than us currently, and we are at home.
Be interesting if all them people saying Germany are a better team with better players and that their mentality is just, simply, better better………does that mean that if we lose, Southgate doesn’t deserve stick? Like, if we just lost to a team that you’re convinced is better than us, surely the manager shouldn’t be sack for it?
I assume he’s some sort of football expert/journo? Yet he can’t understand why a top seeded team playing three games at home gets stick for only scoring two goals? I propose that he’s actually lying and does understand but wants to protect his free tickets/access to England press conferences/England players etc.Andy Brassell has probably forgotten more about European football than most of us actually know.

Great 90s crack.
If we win I'm pretty sure a lot of those currently saying how mint the Germans are will change their tune. They'll become an underperforming side, one desperately needing the change of manager (but don't worry they'll be back next time etc) and we still won't get any credit for knocking them out. It'll be all "haven't beaten a good team except Germany and even they were poor" and so on. Always amazing just how many people are desperate to run our national team down. Other nations just seem to crack on and support their side
No maybe about it if he can’t understand WHY stick is being received. Why is pretty obvious.Maybe he’s just got a different opinion to you mate? Possible?
Exactly. Winning ugly is still winning. Though surely no one prefers it to winning beautifully?I don't think we've got much chance, but I'll be absolutely delighted to beat them. A 1-0 own goal in the 95th minute would be brilliant.
I don't think we've played well, and it doesn't fill me with confidence. But I'm still happy we qualified. I don't care how we win, I'll enjoy it if we do. But if we win with a lucky/terrible performance, we can still say it was poor despite getting through.
It's about being balanced in your assessment.
