England v Germany

Until we start creating chances we won't beat anybody!
But yes, should we do the above this German team team is certainly beatable
This is my concern. German's build up play has been very good and they can effortlessly get the ball in and around the oppositions box. We have been struggling to get the ball past the halfway line with controlled possession.

The main benefit I think Germany has in this game is they are better set up to come from behind if England score first. If England concede first I'm not sure we can come back.

Aye. We'll get caught up in the occasion - which to their minds doesn't really exist - and they'll play the game.

They'll probably meet their proper rivals, the Dutch, in the semis.

Well you say that, but they stayed in the game against a decent French side, and had the ball in and around their area plenty.

I'd hate to meet the Germany that turned up against Portugal.

I only saw the goals last night, but they still got the job done.

What if we play like we have in the groups?
Portugal were defensively woeful against them. Huge gaps at the back that the Germans fully explored.

The ultimate tournament team that struggled to find a way past a championship defence last night, and were staring down the barrel of an early exit.

They aren't the team that humiliated Brazil anymore.

I think a few on here have had their fingers burned after the Scotland debacle.

I'm not gonna sit here and say we are guaranteed to win, but I'm more optimistic than pessimistic for now.
France drew with Hungary, and Portugal struggled against them until the final 10 minutes.
Germany also scored 4 past Portugal.

I want England to win, same as you. But I'm being realistic rather than trying to convince myself as to why they'll do it.
We've looked poor, lack any speed or intensity.
Job done in terms of winning the group and well done for not conceding. But we don't look anywhere near the levels required.

Which usually happens. We shit ourselves when we take the lead.

We showed a lot of speed and intensity against Croatia and the Czech Rep at times, and we've been cool, calm and professional in 2 out of 3 matches.

I'm trying to be realistic too, and this isn't a write off. Like I said above, I'm not saying it'll be easy, or that anything is guaranteed, but the same applies to Germany.

Win and posters continue to argue about how good bad or indifferent England are. Lose and we can all get back to arguing the same about SAFC

Don’t think Germany are anywhere near the side they used to be. Yes they will have the usual technical prowess and calm organisational demeanour but from what l have seen it is apparent they can be rattled, especially at the back. Defence is notably slow and l fancy England to win. If we target the defence with pace then it could be relatively comfortable but a similarly cautious approach much as we’ve shown already will be a much more cagey game and play into their hands imho.
Start fast but if we get a goal do not retreat into our shell but keep going at them.
Germany then. Worthy of respect but certainly nothing to fear from them IF England adopt the correct approach.
Nice optimistic post this, have a like.

So what though? The principles that have been behind previous German successes aren't in this team. They lack structure and defensive solidity. There's no clear identity. They've been reliant on individual brilliance and mistakes to see them through. Last night Low did the Steve Bruce method of bringing on every attacking player he has and it worked.

England have not been great so far, but we do have a clear philosophy and structure in place. I don't think we're going to get to the final with our eleven and setup currently, but one thing that international tournaments have shown us is that a collective and cohesive approach will beat individuals 99 times out of 100.

We should win this game and we need to ask serious questions if we don't.
If we lose this I'd probably be sacking Southgate tbh

Southgate is far too negative, especially with the talent at his disposal. I can see us losing a tight 0-1 and the end of a utterly boring, disappointing Euros.
