England v Australia 2nd T20 live on BBC1 and sky Sunday 6th September at 215pm game start

I don’t think anyone denied he’d be a success opening in T20. He’d be great played anywhere. Question was whether he’s sufficiently better than say Roy to justify the downgrade in 6 from Buttler to say Ali
Opener stats
Buttler 11 innings 448 runs at 51 5 half centuries
Roy 35 innings 860 runs at 24.57 5 half centuries
Bairstow 12 innings 270 runs 22.50 1 half century.

Now for 6/7 worth noting Buttler not batted at 6 or below since 2017 been slowly moved up.

Buttler 24 innings 395 runs 20.89 1 half century SR 125 at 6 127 at 7
Ali 17 innings 172 runs at 15.65 SR 182 at 6 and 131 at 7
Bairstow at 6 117 at 23.50 SR 160

All in all Buttler opening stats are double the others average and moeen average isn't a complete drop.

At 6 is 21 while buttlers is 22. Albeit moeen only had 3 games there as opposed buttlers 20 why I included 7 as moeen played 14 of 30 innings there

Buttler not playing in the final game tomorrow so I guess it's Banton and Bairstow to open and Denly/Billings coming in at 5/6 (may move Ali up to 5)

Surely Denly gets a game. Otherwise becomes the most pointless selection ever.

Didnt realise the difference was so stark in terms of the statistics. Although you can’t judge everything on stats of course (or you’d have Malan over Buttler as our star player 😂). Probably spoke unfairly to suggest 6, doubt he’d bat that low Usually, and of course would be flexible with him, like 140-1 after 11 overs and he bats 3, etc. Still just feels like we’re missing out having him opening for me, but that’s not to doubt his talent or anything opening

Sounds like Morgan could be out as well - injured finger. No doubt be the old practice match mentality, lump your money on the Aussies.

I just finished watching the highlights and was hugely impressed by England's performance. Just three things bugged me. Archer's last over and the soft dismissals of Banton and Morgan. 8.5/10.

Archer's last over was odd, bowled some excellent yorkers then any plan seemed to go out of the window

Nice to see Archer bowling at 90mph+ anarl instead of trundling in at 82mph like he was in the rest series.

got better last test

I don’t understand archer likr

not suggesting every spell should be that fast but like he has some where it’s just low 80s, which I just don’t get

a spell at the top of off stump like 86/87/88 would be great

but he doesn’t even do that

It’s nothing to do with the captain he’s bowled him short spells all year, maybe he is just overthinking it

he looked the real deal in the last game, Carey just didn’t fancy it
