England u-21 captain

Was shocked to hear it when announced. His attitude was disgraceful, I think we were playing Preston when he put an awful tackle in, got sent off, and threw his shirt away..

Team was obviously so so poor but individually he was dire - physically, technically tactically, everything. Must have made a truly striking improvement in the last 18 months or so playing in Holland to warrant captaincy.

From page 57 of Today's Times (no link, sorry, but I think it's behind a paywall anyway): "Aidy Boothryd, the England head coach, spoke last night of Clarke Salter being 'a good footballer and very brave'".

Ha ha ha.

We were warned he struggled physically at was it Bristol Rovers? Now you might expect that of a kid to a age and development making his way in mens football, but you want physicality at centre half. Clearly he had some ability on the ball as we saw when he first arrived and maybe he'll develop physically, but he struggled mentally as much as physically here be it attitude or just not knowing how to deal with things. Who knows how he'll progress, but here he was poor.
