May as well include Anderson and Cook in the squad if Ballance is in there. His position in the Test side should be and probably is absolutely cemented.

Trott should not be in there either. Lions games have nowhere near the same scrutiny as Test matches so if they are using this as an opportunity to see if he is ready for a full recall they are wasting their time.

Current set up seems cluelesss.

Makes sense for Ballance to play, it's the only game he'll get between the end of the season and the tour to the Windies given that he's not in the ODI team (which is a whole different issue). Rest of the test team (I think) will be playing one day stuff for England, he'll be sat on his arse which looking at his physique probably isn't where you want him!

Disappointed that there's no Durham representation but it'll be interesting to see how Trott gets on and which of the openers really stakes a claim.
