Eng vs India - First Test - 20th-24th June

I do agree but I was using Swann as an example of a late bloomer

They have now got Dawson in the odi set up which he was absent from for a good few years so I suspect they are having a look at him in that format

I don’t think going to Australia with only Shoaib as a spinner is a good move and with the form Dawson is in , he could be a back up
I have high hopes for the Ahmed brothers. Farhan has gone off the boil a bit with his bowling, but he's still learning and Rehan is showing some real promise with the bat although he hasn't bowled as much. Looked good when he has though.

I don't think Bashir would be anywhere near the England team if it wasn't for his height imo. A lot of pressure on him to perform in Australia for this very reason. I know he's had a canny run with some wickets so I'm not completely writing him off. I just don't see a match winner in him personally.

I agree - I'm usually quite defensive over players but I don't really see it in him despite small improvements. In England or Asia or almost all conditions we have better bowlers leach being one. They seem to have a lot of faith in his height being a dealbreaker in Australia. I hope it is but i just see another of a long line of spinners that would get carted over there without the ability to bat or field.

The biggest lesson we’ve learned under “Bazball” is that County Cricket is a load of crap and at times may as well be a different sport to Test Cricket. Liam Dawson is the standard County plodder. IMO.
Which is still a level up on Bashir. IMO.
Shoaib will go but to have only one spinner may be the wrong way

Have to have at least two spinners and not rely on part time of Root

Rehan Ahmed maybe the other option but he to is barely used on games

Jacks is another possible as he had success overseas

Be interesting though to see what happens
Jacks would get f***ing flayed in Australia. He's probably the definition of a bits and pieces cricketer in the longer form, feast or famine batting at 5 or 6, and you wouldn't mind him chucking down a couple of overs as he has that knack of buying a wicket, but you wouldn't, under any circumstances, want him trying to hold up an end in Australia, that'd be brutal.
Sai Sudharsen is a doubt for the second Test with a hurt shoulder.
That's a shame. I'd love to see England win 5-0, but Sai score 8 tons in the last four games.

A genuinely lovely, lovely bloke. Not just cause he plays for us, but I've had his company a couple of times, and he's an absolute sweetheart of a bloke. Hope he has a massively successful career

He’s as cool as Dev off coronation street for me

At least one “tracer bullet “ a test does me
I've always like him, he's a character and passionate, even though he's pro India (which he's allowed to be ;)) I don't feel like hes anti-opposition

Agreed. Ganguly was on comms during the world cup win and you could sense him seething as England were playing

Plus the other Indian comms are terrified to lose their gigs in the ipl

I think Ravi just says it as is

He's seen India's seamers and said Bumrah is the best, reckon i'd stick Shami 2nd.
even though he's streets ahead and in the hat for one of the best ever ala Steyn.
