Endoscopy

Anyone had one of these?

Got one this week as I've got a suspected ulcer.

Heard its pretty horrible?
I've had them with the spray and the anesthetic it's not pleasant depends how long the tube is going to be down anything more than 10 minutes and I would opt for the anesthetic

I’ve had one. I hate the idea of… well y’know what I’m talking about it.

Anyway. They were brilliant. I was helped and talked through the whole thing and it was extremely efficient and speedy.

The best thing was at the end. The nurse advised they I might feel a bit windy afterwards. And I’ve never seen anyone so delighted when I belched in their face.

Edit: anaesthetic or not depends on the nature of the biopsy or examination that’s being performed, the advice you’re given, and how you feel about. A friend of mine opted for anaesthetic and didn’t like it at all. Advised me to go without. But I’d have probably done that anyway.

I had the spray no problem, was able to watch the screen while he explained everything to me. Downside was the farting for a couple of hours. Second time obviously hit something inside as I was doubled up in pain took a couple of hours then they released me

I get one every two years and usually get sedation and I'll tell you why. I am dead cockley. Can hardly brush my teeth without gagging. The first one I ever got without sedation or spray I was heaving like a lunatic and going bright red in the face. They had to abandon. So my advice is if you like this, get the sedation

I had an colonoscopy and an endoscopy at the same time. I had sedation and gas and air. As I've got diverticular disease it was a bit tricky and painful, all I remember is suddenly shrieking 'just shove the fu**ing thing up' when they asked if I wanted to continue or stop. Bit embarrassing afterwards. 😁

I had the upper endoscopy for a hiatus hernia in September 2021..got it done at the Cobalt Hospital through by the Silverlink..it was ok..they put a plastic retainer type thing in your mouth to keep everything open..they gave me an oral sedative..a spray..one thing i was surprised about was the thickness of the pole that the camera is on..also the way the camera went down..i was expecting him to be a bit slower and taking a bit more care..the noises that come out of you when it's going down with trapped wind and stuff is canny funny like..you gag a bit at first and there's a bloke with a little hose thing getting rid of your saliva like at the dentists..all in all it was ok.

I'm laughing, not cos you had to have an endoscopy, but you made it sound so horrible then in the end went .... oh it was ok

I’m like that. And I didn’t. And I was chuffed to high heaven when I managed without it. If I was doing it again I might not be so confident though. No need for cockiness.

Christ. A spit roast.

It was just the shoving the pole down bit really..it seemed to go in my mouth then before i knew anything about a foot of it had gone down..the surgeon fella was bit of a prick anarl..when i got told it was a hiatus hernia i asked him about what causes them and what the way ahead was going to be..he was quite blunt in saying..'years of poor diet and being grossly overweight'..i told him i'd never been grossly overweight..didn't have a bad diet and did regular exercise..and he's stood there with his belly bursting through his shirt...as for the way ahead..all he said was is you've got that for the rest of your life.

How very dare he....the prick. So your OK hospital experience just sounding worse and worse.

I've had two like. One at 18 and the other 25. Throat and nose.

My advice.. Accept any sedation they offer. It's pretty gruesome tbh.

Aye, quite a few without sedation and just the throat spray. They’re minging, but just try and swallow the tube and breathe through your nose and get your breathing under control and you’ll be sound.

Had one a couple of weeks ago and also got a colonoscopy at the same time. Not the spit-roast I had in mind, but all went OK and nothing untoward found.

They sedate you out here as standard practice, so as mentioned above you're lying there waiting, then next thing you know you're being woken up and it's all over. So if sedation is an option, then take it.
Yeah, in Vietnam they have sedation, much better, as you say, one minute you are chatting with nurses while attaching stuff to you arm/wrist, one was holding my hand, next thing I'm awake in another room, as if you've had a power nap. Worse bit is the drinking the laxative the night before, something like 3 liters worth (mixed with water), i may as well just sat on the throne for 3 or 4 hours, your a-hole is a little tender after.
