Employers snooping social media

Gone are the days of the old made up c.v.

Of.course every job applicant has their social media checked before interviews??

Every company has social media these days for advertising. As an employee you post anything bad on there of course your going to get sacked

Would you walk into your companies owner office and say this is a crap place to work etc etc and expect to walk out with not getting the sack???

The world is a weird place if you think not.
I wonder what people think of me after searching for me on social media. I have a LinkedIn profile about 20% complete, last updated 10 years ago, no posts (can you post). A facebook account not logged into for at least 2 years and probably 12 posts total, and I signed up for twitter last year, made one tweet, got lots of notifications I didn’t want, found annoying didn’t go back.

Social media wise, I died sometime ago.

Probably fell asleep after reading your War and Peace posts on here. 😎😂

Our lass is more careful than I am but she is part of our work’s social media team.

I don’t have my employer listed anywhere bar LinkedIn which I don’t post on.

We have a zero tolerance policy as well afaik.

Zero tolerance to what

Posts on social media that are in any way negative towards my employer or show them in a negative light (trust me they’ve done a hell of a lot of shit). Or after that anything racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic. Basically anything you post that can be in any way considered controversial.

It’s not policed very well, I don’t post on Facebook and keep it for friends I now have in other parts of the world for messenger. My Twitter feed is mostly FPL related.

I'm employed by meself these days but still try to be careful what is posted publicly.
I would never post on or like anything controversial on linkedin. Lock most stuff down on Facebook. Twitter is anonymous.
I'm obviously just a username on here but know too many people personally these days anyway.

weird world.
you can intimidate a 12 year girl, spit in her face, and have the whole episode videod and shown on websites. And get to keep your job.

Post a "she looks like a bloke, must be a tranny". And get the sack.

I understand that employers can sweep your online content for unpalatable views, but can you be sacked for them in the UK, even if they’re unrelated to the company?
We’ve been told to watch what we post in case people think they are the views of the company.
However my social media doesn’t reference the company in any way, so how could they make that case against you?
Also, what about the smb? As it’s anonymous, is there any (legal) way employers can link content on here to you?
@Roger

I knew someone who got sacked from his job for minor domestic violence against his wife. The report in the local newspaper said "Joe Bloggs, 35, a postman from Ryde was found guilty"

Company (Royal Mail) argued he'd brought the company into disrepute even though it was a local reporter who decided to print his occupation and he had no say in the matter.

I don't access any social media on the work laptop (I'm WFH). Just have my tablet on the desk next to me and use that. Don't have any extreme views anyway so they'd struggle to find owt controversial.

Well you've just said that domestic violence resulting in a conviction is 'minor' so that's a starting point. ;)

In certain jobs I know for a fact they ask for psuedonames and can check up on what you've been posting. It's best not to post anything publicly that could be used against you in the future, sad but true
