Employers snooping social media

I understand that employers can sweep your online content for unpalatable views, but can you be sacked for them in the UK, even if they’re unrelated to the company?
We’ve been told to watch what we post in case people think they are the views of the company.
However my social media doesn’t reference the company in any way, so how could they make that case against you?
Also, what about the smb? As it’s anonymous, is there any (legal) way employers can link content on here to you?

You're probably breaking some company rules on using company provided IT equipment to post unacceptable content. I'm sure this site and others maintain IP logs which could be traced back to your employer. It wouldn't look good for the company to be associated with the views of a feckless shambling oaf.(*)

(*) I'm talking the general case here.

They would have to prove you were posting in work time and using their wifi though.
sounds like they are trying to bin you off
This is UK wide, thankfully.

I’d assume if your employer found you being a full blown racist they’d sack you regardless if your profile says where you work or not
They would certainly be able to use it as part of evidence as to your character and views, if they could link it back to you..

If the racism did not affect the work or was not in anyway related to the company how could they sack someone?
It isn’t illegal to be racist. If no law was broken then on what grounds would someone be sacked?

When i was a gaffer about 10 years ago I’d go on late shift and literally have nothing to do..i was always on here or Facebook or e bay..it was eventually mentioned in passing about the time i was spending on the internet..had no idea i was being watched.

If your social media does not link you to the company its fine. If by posting it could be viewed as bringing the company into disrepute or that it looks like the views you are sharing are the views of your company, then yes, you can go down a disciplinary route.
