Empire Theatre

And yet the Peacock is often shut midweek, even with the Empire having a show on. The theatre goers are probably well catered for now with the Engine Room, Dun Cow and bars over the road, plus Low Row. Not sure I'd be adding another pub round there, but I agree the area is vastly improved.

You get some Decent Days and Nights in there like

Having been brought up in Sunderland and visited the Empire many times I was surprised when I moved to that London to discover that a lot of the famous West End theaters were much smaller. There are large theaters in the West End like the Palladium and I had imagined that every London theater was as big that but far from it.

The Empire is bigger than Newcastle's Theater Royal which I think was orginally built as a music hall.

It's rarely sold out anyway, Les Miserables aside, would be happy to pay a little extra for a better experience.
Its not like an aeroplane where you might be sitting / sleeping / eating in your seat for hours on end though is it. For a couple of hours the seats are ok and never even thought about wanting a bigger seat. The directors box at the SoL the seats are the same width as all the other seats which was a disappointment the first time i made it in there, padded and carpet though so not like the empire is unique. The seats at the back of the Firestation are bigger with gaps between them which is good. Perhaps if the Empire was built now might have bigger plusher seats but doubt the Edwardians cared about such things when it was built.

Yep. Less fatties in those days.

It’s top 5 in terms of capacity of proper theatres outside London.

Will that be valid for another day ?
Already had an e mail providing a credit voucher valid for 12 months which is fine with us as we go reasonably regularly, although there are a few unhappy customers on the Empire’s facebook page 😬

The remaining performances are virtually sold out so I guess it was impossible to offer people alternative dates. No reason given as to why it was cancelled and tonight’s performance is on 🤷‍♂️
