For someone who didn't know who she was until five minutes ago, you seem to have a very strong opinion of her.;)
Was Lord Puttnam a stalwart of Sunderland?

You do know that the main role of a chancellor is ceremonial, to make a speech at graduations and be a bit of an ambassador for the university and that it’s not part of the management structure of any university or an academic role in any way?

I graduated from Durham in 1990, well before student fees and any commercialisation of HE. My chancellor? Margot Fonteyn. A ballerina.

Because it was just a bit of a daft statement mate. Sorry should have just said that but wanted to stuff me breakfast down so just hoyed a smiley in.

It doesn't at all demonstrate what you say and I would wonder why you said it. A University does not have shareholders. But they are responsible for their own survival and these days that is becoming very hard. So yes many aspects should be run like a commercial operation would rather than say public sector but ultimately they are still only there for education.

What is wrong with the appointment of Emile Sande?

She probably votes Conservative and she's ousted one of the Jarrow marchers..........albeit a fast one.
