Embleton

Yes was against 10 tiring men but that’s what I want to see from a midfielder. Scowen and Leads are tidy players but Embleton is a bit more exciting and direct. He’s good on the ball as well.

Wonder if we will ever see Gooch, Diamond and Embleton on pitch at same time? Much more energy, pace and directness.
Gooch, diamond, Embleton and Neil all look very tidy players to me. I would be willing to overlook the rawness of the latter three if they were to start regularly as we try and build something for the future.

Scowen or Leadbiitter playing deep together with Neil and with the other three further forward would provide a decent platform and the likes of McGeady and O'Brien can be rotated in periodically to add a bit of experience.
Two footed as well. The lad still has a lot of learning to do but he has a good starting point.
Rarely do you see a player as comfortable with either foot as him. The only example I can think of playing for us was Chris Makin.

I was just talking about this to friends, if everyone was fit I'd be tempted to go with something like this...

Burge
Sanderson Willis Wright Hume
Scowen (or Leadbitter/Power)
O'Nien Embleton
Diamond Gooch
Wyke
Bench
Patterson
Flanagan
Maguire
Mcgeady
Leadbitter
Mcfadzean
Power

I got pelters for suggesting this side.

LM: Hulm.
MD: Embelton.
MD: 09.
RM: Diamond.

No10: Mgeedy.

CF: Gooch.

We're not getting relegated, get some pace and enthusiasm in the side, and go for it.
I don't mind that but would probs have Wyke instead of McGeady....but as a centre forward obv.
I would still use McGeady often mind.
I don't see why we need a ponderous 'tough-tackling" midfield at all in this league as the standard is so low.

Hume isn’t a winger, Embleton lacks experience, O’Nien has barely played in midfield for 2 years and you’ve left our top scorer out.

Understandable why people disagreed with it - no offence.

Thought Embleton, Gooch and O'Nien all did well in the time they had last night. Embleton performed at a different level vs Port Vale and I thought he did very well in the first half at Wimbledon. His early departure in that game may have set his confidence back a little, but last night he looked sharp and positive again. These 3 could enhance us and when Hume gets back we could go from strength to strength if we can sustain our form in February. It just doesn't look like the shareholder reaarangements are gonna be done by the end of the window.

He’s effectively missed more than a whole season through injury as well, so he needs to play to develop the skills that can only be learned on the pitch.
Exactly. I get the desire to clear the decks, but the club has to retain some players, and I'd rather take a punt on Embleton than saw Power or someone who has shown his floor and ceiling.

And Ian Wright was 23 when he started in pro football.

I get it, we look at the age like it's a use-by-date, but he's had 3300 minutes of senior football. That's not even a full 46 game season.

It’s the usual nonsense from people on here. Give him a decent run before he’s judged imo.

I think unfortunately we've been conditioned to focus on appearances over minutes with players. 10 games feels like a lot, but if you're only getting the final 10 of the game it's nothing.

Agreed. Diamond went through similar but has produced when given starts regularly.

Steed Malbranque was. Which i think is an excellent example of the kind of player Embleton could be with consistent appearances and practice. Not as good as steed in his peak but definitely at this level and possibly the one above

Rodwell was either footed as well. Shite with both bla bla etc, but he was very comfortable on both.
