Ellis Short - the worst thing to happen to SAFC in a near 140 year history

I'm not convinced that Short hasn't made money. The PL was awash with cash during his tenure.
He will have, it won't show in the books and not necessarily be coming out of SAFC.

Just owning a football club and talking to other owners and chairmen must offer up some massive networking opportunities for all the other business these people own.

It's about £6m a year. Prior to that, there was a £40m overdraft at a similar rate costing about £3m a year.
So we have a billionaire with a financing background who takes one of his failing assets and sells the debt onto an American company at the cost of £6m a year.

If like a lot of other owners that money was owed to them, like Ashley say, we would instantly have 6m a year more to spend. Or we would have Short £6m closer to getting his own money out.

I just don't think the interest of the club played any part in these sort of decisions, quite literally.

Drumville for a start, Short took his eye off the club and trusted too many people to play their role, he is paying the penalty for it.

Not a chance, look who Short has appointed since being here. He’s turned us into a laughing stock man.

Soon as he realised he wouldn’t get a return on his investment he’s ran the club into the floor.
All he's done is turned off the money tap.

He's overseen an almighty fall for the club and as the man at the top he must take carry the can, but he's hardly "ran the club into the floor", unless you mean he's allowed managers to recklessly spend (which he has).

He didn't need to realize he wouldn't get a return on his investment to do that. The hot-dog eating Yank ran us into the ground the moment he arrived and has been doing that since with his refusal to give money for transfers and all the other terrible decisions he has made.

Tbf, he appointed BSA, MON, Moyes, Bruce, Coleman and Poyet. All of which were decent managers (we hoped ).

The only dodgy decision was PDC

:lol::lol::lol:

Oh piss off. His behaviour this season has been stupid. I can't say shameful, he can do what he likes with his money ultimately. But f***ing stupid.
His actions in past seasons are what has put us in this position. What behavior are you referring to this season?

Thoughts @Grumpy Old Man ?

People keep repeating this and as @Grumpy Old Man has deconstructed from the accounts it is bollocks

Short has mismanaged the club something rotten and the money has been pissed away as the team has got worse and worse and the club has lurched from one failure to the next failure

But he hasn’t somehow secretly syphoned off money. Our day to day running costs (wages the main one obviously but also all the rest) have been really high relative to revenue (for any business, but even for a football club) and we rarely recoup any fees for our players, never mind make profits on them (the only way for non-big 6 clubs to be self sufficient and compete).

The amount of players who sit on big wages contributing nothing (because they play shit for us) for periods of their contracts and are then given away has been crazy. Meanwhile others (including their replacements in the team) add another wage (and transfer fee) and often end up to some degree in the same boat for us later down the line (no recouping of fee, possibly frozen out but still being paid, possibly playing but not being owt flash).

All the while the team gets worse and we tumble down the league(s)

That’s where the money has gone - it’s unbelievable really but we really have used up “all that money”.

It’s still all Shorts fault ultimately like (via his poor appointment of directors and his/the directors appointments of managers/sanctioning of signings etc) but he hasn’t trousered any cash. In fact he’s had to pile loads of his own in just to cover the losses caused by the above. Of course it now appears that he has now reduced that support to the level that he only covers the shortfall in daily running costs and is no longer willing to chuck money in for extra player investment.

No the financial scandal of 1957 set us on the trajectory of being a middling club bouncing between divisions.

You can say what you want about short.

The fact of the matter is, he’s the owner, we aren’t, a negative attitude from the fans is going to get us nothing.

There’s plenty of worse owners about than him.

He’s just taken too much bad advice on board imho.

Which makes him a terrible owner.
