Ellis Short - the worst thing to happen to SAFC in a near 140 year history

Tell me... what is the opposite of irrational hysterics, then? Pretending it's not happening? Head in the sand whilst your club descends to it's lowest league position ever? Taking a 'glass half full approach' whilst the club you support is being run into the ground by a fool and a charlatan?

That's not the type of support I can identify with - sorry.

People on here try to appear on a higher intellectual and moral plane mate. Any sort of passion for your club is deemed as kneejerking as the "bigger picture" and a pragmatic approach is essential to maintain this facade.

It’s recognising that the bloke may well have made bad decisions - but if anything, his mistakes primarily revolve around spending too much money at times when he probably should have been more prudent. I’m sure that would have been well received on here at the time. I don’t recall this board being awash with threads about what a “horrendous” decision it was to sign Rodwell at the time, for example.

The worst question ever asked...

'Mr Short, how do you fancy investing in a magic carpet ride?'

Worst reply - 'That sounds like a great idea Niall'

What perspective do you need to have to think, despite all the evidence, that he's done a good job? Seems like it would require a lot of mental gymnastics to even begin to make that argument.

We were a PL club when he arrived (so he didn't achieve that) and he spent millions upon millions desperately trying to correct his own mistakes year on year.

Now we're on the brink of league one and the most likely outcome looks like relegation. We might be completely bust without a miracle these next two years.

Explain to me again how you're being rational?

I don’t recall anyone saying that he’d - to quote you - “done a good job”.

Yes it’s a travesty the way he’s overseen a huge investment in the club, and our longest unbroken spell in the top flight for decades.

People need to get a grip. He’s made mistakes in his managerial appointments and if he’s guilty of anything, it’s backing the wrong managers too far. However he’s not exactly turned a profit at the clubs expense. He’s the biggest loser out of everyone on the back of what’s happened.
Dunno why he was so hell bent on staying in the Prem for so long when we were haemorrhaging money year upon year. Should’ve pulled the plug on his ‘investment’ years ago instead of allowing us to be run this far into the ground, in a financial sense.

People support the club in their own way and it’s all about opinions. Maybe you perceive people to be on a different intellectual plane because they’re a bit more calm about the situation? There’s not much that we can change unless you hang out with billionaires.

Then why are said people so snotty about others having an opposing opinion?
