Ellis Short - the worst thing to happen to SAFC in a near 140 year history

I’ve read about half of this thread and can’t be bothered to read the rest.

I can’t see anyone having mentioned the actual worst event in our history (to date) - the 1950s illegal payments scandal which resulted in our first ever relegation from the top flight and loss of status from “Bank of England” club/“Arsenal of the North” to the yo yo club we’ve been since.

Bank Of England Club: The Perils Of Big Spending

Yes it’s a travesty the way he’s overseen a huge investment in the club, and our longest unbroken spell in the top flight for decades.

People need to get a grip. He’s made mistakes in his managerial appointments and if he’s guilty of anything, it’s backing the wrong managers too far. However he’s not exactly turned a profit at the clubs expense. He’s the biggest loser out of everyone on the back of what’s happened.
Here, here! Have you got his laurel crown to hand?

Alright Ellis lad.
Do shut up

His actions in past seasons are what has put us in this position. What behavior are you referring to this season?

Thoughts @Grumpy Old Man ?

If he has made money out of the club, it's not gone through the books. There is one member who's convinced that he's creaming money off transfer deals involving African players, which, apart from being well into tinfoil hat territory and potentially racist, is also implying the commission of a least four criminal offences. Even if he had done that, anything he could have got from that is dwarfed by the £100m or so he's put in. No, he's well out of pocket from meeting the Big Man at the races that day.
Half the business that goes on relating to football clubs probably never ends up in the books of said football clubs. Anyone thinking otherwise would be very naive.

This is not me making an illegal activities statement either the accountants at KPMG where doing nothing wrong when doing Corillions books, or the councillors giving multi million pounds worth of public money contracts to them, or the dividends and bonuses being paid out, you can go on and on. Still stinks mind.
That itself is an assertion of illegal activities.

I think he started with the best of intentions but both he and those he appointed have made mistake after mistake.
Irrespective of the fact his intention was never to run the club into the ground, his actions in the last two seasons have suggested he's now quite happy for this scenario to play out.
He's ultimately been a complete disaster for the club.

When will you know more about the current state of clubs finances then? April?

Soon as the accounts are filed at Companies House. They normally appear about 10 days after the club submits them; the deadline is March 31.

Incidentally. Is it OK to PM you for some general advice, about a new venture I'm looking at?

You in discussion with the club to become our new goalkeeper? Tell em 2 chomp bars or no deal, they are desparate now.

To be fair 6 in a row and cup final under his watch , reminds me very much of Ridsdale at Leeds when they spent big to get into Europe and then ended up paying Seth Johnsons contract for years - ring any bells ;)

That it really. He has had some 'success' including a long spell in top flight but as I've said many times, if I had known that 'success' would lead to club ruin for a generation yet to come then in my opinion he has been the worst cusdonian we have ever had.
