Ellis not happy about FA/Sam affair

Regarding the appointment the Guardian reports:

"the Sunderland owner Ellis Short’s anger and frustration at the manner in which he perceives the FA has poached his manager."

and

" It has, though, been slowed slightly by Sunderland’s desire to gain a little more than £2m by way of recompense for the disruption caused to their transfer plans and pre-season preparations. Short was particularly irritated by the near two-week hiatus which followed his manager’s interview for the England job and immediately plunged the club into a potentially harmful limbo."

maybe some of you should just tell Ellis to "man up" - "get over it" -" stop crying", etc...

That's all fair enough. I share the same frustrations as him. Ellis rightly wasn't going to sack Sam and pay compensation to him and not receive the money he is entitled to from the FA. That would have been madness.

It does work like that. See the Southampton situation where they decided they wanted £5m if Everton were to take £3.5m a year Koeman (more than salary * time left)

We can ask for what we want, Sam's salary has nothing to do with it. As to whether haggling is in our interests, well, I'd leave that decision to Short but it appears as if he thinks it's worth haggling over

I too bow to your greater knowledge.

Whatever the ins and outs of permissions to talk and blah blah, Sam wanted the England job. If permission was refused, we'd have a disgruntled manager with a toxic relationship with the club, or one handing in his notice fairly sharpish... in other words, a no win situation for SAFC. I would say 'poached' is a fair description of the situation.

What we are left with now is a wasted transfer window where we have no manager in place to direct signings. We'll presumably be forced to use January as this season's main window - not ideal by anyones standards. If we buy now, there's no guarantee the acquisitions will fit the long term plan when we do appoint a new manager.

This season has 'transition' and 'fractured' written all over it - again - with dangerous potential to flirt with the 'R' word - again.

No wonder Ellis is fecking angry, we all should be!

You missed out the part where it says Sam wasn't happy that Ellis only gave him 50% of what he wanted to spend. Maybe if had given him it all then we wouldn't be in this situation

Pointless statement to make though if it doesn't say how much Sam did expect. He could have expected £100m for all we know.

There seems to be a bit of a hold up in today's announcement.
Possibly to do with compensation terms, who knows.

One thing is for sure, if the FA have stepped out of line in even the remotest way at all, Short will be looking to sue the arse of them or screw them for every last cent possible in good ole American style and best of luck to him for doing so.

Pure speculation.

Kick their knackers in, Ellis, my son! Grrrrr... !

(ps does 'knackers' have a 'k' ?)
As long as people know what you mean it doesn't make a blind bit of difference mate.

Not sure how he can think they've poached him when we gave them permission to talk to him.

We should hold out for nearer £5m mind
If Pardew cost 2.5M to Palace long contract versus shorter contract 2M & BSA wanted to go for the England job is reasonable compensation
