Ellis not happy about FA/Sam affair

You missed out the part where it says Sam wasn't happy that Ellis only gave him 50% of what he wanted to spend. Maybe if had given him it all then we wouldn't be in this situation
He could have offered 200 million and hookers every home game and it wouldn't have mattered. He was always going to leave if England wanted him.

I'm all for holding out for the best deal I just don't think it was worth all the hassle over the past few weeks. Yes the money we get will go towards a new manager but it's time lost and we are now playing catch up. My only hope is transfer are lined up and ready to come in with all the deals done behind closed doors before managers comes but will Moyes want them? He will want to bring in his own staff and players surely? We are 4 or 5 players short of a good side, need abit more quality yet.
Holding out for what best deal?

Not sure how he can think they've poached him when we gave them permission to talk to him.

I haven't read the article. Just the quote from the article. Which doesn't say that Short said this. Just offered the opinion that... etc. Not read anything that says he believes he was poached.

It's all smoke and mirrors, he said, she said etc . Unless it is in inverted commas indicating a direct quote then all anybody is doing is assuming. Some things might be true but a helluva lot is fiction and guesswork .

On the basis that you don't have to settle just for getting his contract paid up and can ask for anything you want. £2m is ridiculously low for losing a talented manager at this time

It don't think it works like that with managers as the club won't have a registration for him like they do the players.

There'll be a formula somewhere for a ballpark figure but it won't be anymore that salary*time left.

Asking for £5m is pie in the sky stuff and if Sunderland drag their feet over compensation it will only be detrimental to them and not England as Sunderland will still pay BSA's wages until this is resolved and can't bring in another manager whilst he still holds the position.

So what are you saying, we should just cut our losses and say thank you very much for causing our slight inconvenience at this most in opportune time?

It does work like that. See the Southampton situation where they decided they wanted £5m if Everton were to take £3.5m a year Koeman (more than salary * time left)

We can ask for what we want, Sam's salary has nothing to do with it. As to whether haggling is in our interests, well, I'd leave that decision to Short but it appears as if he thinks it's worth haggling over

That's disputed mind, I've not seen any confirmation that he had such a clause, and the echo (I know) did run a story suggesting he didn't. Sunderland's first statement also said that, when the FA approached them, Sam "requested" that he be allowed to talk to them. Again it could probably be read either way but I took it to mean he had to ask because he didn't have a clause
I bow to superior knowledge Guinness!

Manager's salaries are small fry compared to players. If we can pay Rodwell and other clowns to do nowt then a few weeks for a manager is chicken feed.

Send in our ace negotiator.

I know fervie always insisted no player earned more than him. With Sam being good mates, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a similar clause.
If that's true Sir Alex would have been on more than the superb250k per week that Rooney's last contract was worth.

I find that hard to believe tbh.
