Elliott Embleton

2 of those other 3 have played regularly for our first team, the other (Mumba) also made a few league appearances.

Embleton has done absolutely nothing, if he was ready he'd have been given a go by now.

Even Luke Molyneux, who has been released, has made more first team appearances
Molyneux has made 32 appearances a level below Embleton and is a year older. Maja can say he featured regularly. Hume was getting there, but 11 appearances from 61 games isn't regularly being in the first team. Fair enough he was injured for a chunk of the season, but so was Embleton.

Not saying he's a world beater, or would even make our team, but being so down on a lad off the back of his first full season of first team football - a season he's made 30 appearances for a League Two team in and is well thought of from - just seems daft.

Only if the manager wants him to but first he would have to drop someone he obviously doesn't want to despite no one setting the world on fire in that position. Let's face it he doesn't seem to want to try the younger kids out. Maja wasn't always an automatic choice but by god we missed him when replaced by Mssrs Wyke and Grigg ! Sometimes youth can be better than experience in these leagues

He had no experience of the league and a large turnover of players at the start. I agree with much of what you say about losing some of the attacking attitude and him preferring experience, but I think he'll come at this next season with a different approach. Time will tell.
has he said anything to suggest this ? Has he admitted getting anything wrong ? I've only heard him praise the existing squad for last season

You just replied to someone saying he's just turned 20 then in the same comment sarcastically tell someone else we should release all our players at 19 cos they not yet world beaters  literally contradicted yourself in seconds.

No, he's just turned 20...so to release him before now would be him at 19. I think rat talks shite as much as the next man but that is internally consistent.

It was sarcastic, though right; like you say..

Eh? I didn’t contradict at all

Not sure how this can be your Main thought about embleton like

Not really I think under JR and him sticking with most of the current squad which I think he will particularly in the middle and up front I reckon playoffs at best again. If he could offload Cattermole and Oviedo and Grigg (who I don't think wants to be here) to free up money and somehow hang on to McGeady and not rely on Leadbitter and Honeyman and invest in some pace and strength I might be more optimistic but I can't see it. And I'll be damned if I am going back to f***ing Wembley for an 8th defeat :(

If we go into next season with the same group of midfielders we won’t even make the play offs imo

not the point though ,anyone like myself who watches our junior sides knows he cant be part of our team next season, or 2nd div here we come .give him a contract and loan him out again

True I suppose ! Our midfield and supply to 'strikers' is utterly rank but can't see JR going against Cattermole Leadbitter and Honeyman

Agreed. And there’s no way he’ll drop Cattermole, Honeyman or Leadbitter so that means we’ll once again be getting bullied off the physical teams. He didn’t show any difference in tactics after 60 games last season and I see no reason to suddenly think he’ll have an epiphany and change for next season.

TBF They were all dropped at different times last season.

He was on about him being released now though... as no new contract. So hes 20.

Aye sarcastically releasing him cos not a world beater... but not sarcastic about him being 19 (when he's 20)

Anyway, I was more laughing at him saying naughtynosenout and when I wrote #ratout in reply it made me laugh, childish I know but i dont care . Wasnt a dig at the rat.

Not putting him down necessarily just he seems to have been discussed to death on here that's all.

Too slow, too immobile, no creativity.

Nah praying he does but can’t see it.
Cattermole and leadbitter another year older that little bit slower. And Honeyman making it look like he is working hard with brainless and needless running while constantly ruining attacks and losing possession

One of the fundamentals of playing a lone striker is to have runners from midfield and out wide who will support and run beyond the frontman, Sunderland don’t have any of these, far too static and one dimensional.

Take Chelsea under Mourinho as an example - Drogba brilliant as a lone striker but having Lampard, Duff, Robben, Joe Cole, etc as willing runners/supporters meant that the tactic worked.

By the way, I’m not for one minute comparing us to Chelsea, I’m simply using them as an example of how the tactic works!

I wonder if the board would be impressed if we bought a young Grimsby lad who's had an alright season in league 2?

It looks like he's wanting assurances over playing but the only way I see him getting a chance in the side is if we get shot of Honeyman, Gooch or both.

If we can't move them on, then Embleton comes into the squad at the expense of a new signing in that position.
