EFL Salary Cap abolished

Means nothing to us until someone does something for once and Dreyfus is finally able to come and hopefully takes us over. We are no better financially whether we have one or not.

It will really only mean something to be rid of the cap once we can spend.

It means a massive amount to us - it means that regardless of what division we are in we are now in a position to extend the contracts of Willis, Wyke, Hume, O'Nien, Diamond and others if we wish to and they want to. This is massive news for us and I can't understand why you can't realise this. Add in to this that our wage bill has dropped massively and will continue when McGeady and Leadbitter leave at the end of this season.
Has this been confirmed or is it just a rumour?
Confirmed on BBC.

That's why Speakman is here.
The academy staff apparently are impressed with him,LJ and JR.They are all taking an interest in the youngen’s and understand how important it is to get that right. The 3 of them are spending a lot of time round the place.

I was a bit surprised that JR is taking such an interest in the academy lads, not your typical CEO.

This is great news with regards to to getting Hume, Willis and Diamond sorted with new contracts. We need to keep the squad size as it is now though, the idea of signing new players on free transfers just because we can is a horrible idea.

We still need the clear out in the summer. The likes of McGeady, Maguire et al need to be moved on.

Not read all the thread, but we should look to sue the efl if we dont go up for severely restricting our trade illegally

Still waiting for somebody to have a backed legal challenge. Something like this may well end up in the supreme court as its in all parties interests to get a binding ruling. My worry is if this does not happen we'll end up with some time of fudged rules that help nobody.
No need to bring a challenge now, unless the the daft twats in the EFL bring in something even more stupid.
I will not argue against being some sensible regulation to protect all clubs from going bust mind. Its not just about Sunderland, Sheff Wed are liable to be in the same position next year.

Not the Top 20 Pod posting on Twitter that there are rumors that the salary cap may be overturned.

Hope to god this is true. Yes clubs need to be sustainable in this division but a flat cap is not the way to go. There is no reason a club our size should be limited to the same cap as clubs like Accrington Stanley for example who pull in significantly less revenue per season.

The cap well and truly screwed us over this January and may well be one of the factors In us not going up at the end of this season.

There's only ONE reason we aren't going up this season, and it's not the salary cap
