I am planning again (tried last year and failed) to saw an easter egg in half without breaking it.

My plan is to have it room temp as fridge would make it brittle and breakable.

Not sure which sawing impliment to use but I was thinking a really thin hacksaw blade or my dad has a mini bandsaw but that does have a bit of vibration on the blade.

Was also thinking of chilling a pair of gloves in the freezer first too.

Wrong! Buy a decent priced easter egg that is going to be of some quality and quite thick. Put this in the fridge and then use the band saw or something with some pace.

Room temperature is not the way forward as it is too soft.

Problem is with a band saw the blade tends to vibrate no matter how tight it is pulled, went through loads of eggs practising last year

Hot cheese wire or similar. Like a knife through butter.

I thought of that but it is to late now, I think you can get something that cuts polystyrene with a hot wire.

Prefab's idea sounds best and probably wouldn't matter what temperature the egg was at.

Might try this myself. Fill the egg full of dog food and re-seal it.

Does it have to be a saw?

A bit of 1-inch punch style karate training, and you could definitely machete it. You'd have to believe it, though.

If you squeeze them gently in the right place they fall in half themselves.

why don't you just buy some of them that are already halved longways and are full of sweets and held together with the silver paper wrapping.;)

How exactly is that entertaining though?

Again that is hardly gonna entertain 30 odd people at a easter bash is it

Too late now mate, will look at investing in something for next year.

This would have been ideal...

Make sure whatever you're using is really sharp. I had to cut up a Flake into a lot of mini-flakes* and I found a really sharp knife the only thing that worked.

*I was making mini-cupcakes to look like 99s and they really did.

Can I come to your party? This sounds like the ultimate in entertainment.

The best I can do is possibly film it and hoy it up on Monday.
