was down in that london on the weekend

train on sat down was 'cancelled' had to pile on the next one & stand all the way down

train coming back yesterday all seemed to be going well until some cracker stabbed a bloke in the head  between Grantham & Peterborough, so after the polis & paramedics arrived the polis declared the train a crime scene and the train was terminated

was announced an additional train was arriving in 10 minutes we could get on.

the "additional" train turned out to be the "next" train north which was already fully seated, so stood all the way home as well

utter bunch of arse

Write a letter and complain, you'll get free tickets (or half price ones at worst) for your next journey. Once stood all the way from Durham to London on the way to Millwall for a Friday night game and got free return tickets to anywhere I wanted when we wrote to complain.

i will do got a form from the station for complaints

use Grand Central, never any problems

is there more than one train a day each way?

as if the train gets cancelled are you then stuck completely?

I don't generally expect a seat on the east coast line, especially travelling north, because, travelling from Peterborough, the unreserved seats are generally gone by the time trains get there. My experience has generally been the same as yours - worst time was standing on an already overcrowded train when they decided to load the cattle from another train which had broken down ahead of us on to ours.

GC train times aren't great, but seem quite cheap, get the form for compliants, you'll have no problem getting a refund. Being a tight bastard I have started using Megabus to travel, £2.50 return to Leeds

You'll get a complete refund like - use them regularly and pretty good on the whole, and they do have a good system for applying for refunds if trains are late or cancelled. Got to the stage where if it's 25 mins late heading into Kings X I pray for a minor delay - over 30 mins you get a 50% refund!

fair comment but to tell everyone an additional train is coming when it is in fact the next train....

why are the trains so f***ing hot as well... i lost about a stone:lol:

Reservations are the only way to get seats, although obviously what happened on your journey back killed that idea. I've given my reserved seat away to old women on a couple of occasions when the train's overcrowded and also had the "due to technical difficulties we aren't doing reserved seats" announcement once or twice. I'm not bothered about standing if I have space to stretch out and move around but that's not always the case, often because there's not enough luggage space.
