DWP Work Coach Vacancies

MONTYMCPHAIL

Striker
Has anyone applied for any of these posts? There's thousands nationwide and hundreds in the N.E.

Just wondering if anyone has applied and had the video interview?

Just ower lass has one this week and was wondering what type of questions they ask.

Cheers in advance....

What is a work coach?

To the resident bell ends, don’t waste your little brains with “coaches you into work”

I am looking for a little more insight into the role.

They ask you questions based on the competencies on the job advert, however they also ask random ones such as tell me about a time you were happy, tell me about how you would feel if you couldn't make a decision, I always thought the video ones would be a lot easier than the face to face ones however speaking to people who have had them over the last few days they all think they have struggled. They are taking on 13000 by March next year though so plenty of opportunity.

Guiding and helping people look for work basically, supporting them with any help they need, agreeing a claimant commitment with them to ensure they receive the best possible support.

One of the staff you meet up with in the jobcentre to prove you've been looking for work. Maybe gettig people onto courses and generally being the face of that hideous Minister for Work and Pensions, taking stick for everything the government has done to fuck up their lives.

If you have a thick enough skin, apply, but whatever the wage is, it wouldn't tempt me to go for it unless I was unemployed and no other work was available.

The interview should be based on the behaviours that are in the job application - haven't seen these posts and don't work for the department so take what I say as adivce not cast iron, but there should be a list on the application form and topical at the moment is diversity. So make sure she has some examples of when she hass made sure the group were inclusive ie how would she communicate with a wide variety of different people for example if she was deliverting a classroom based training package how would she ensure that she gets it across to everyone - check if anyone needs help or spcialist equipment, check the delivery is for everyone - its not good giving a visual presentation if someone is partially sighted. The other thing is help in the communictuy she needs to get in any type of voluntary work, does she mentor anyone and why, does she go into schools and mentor kids, is she involved in any way where pope without the best starts can better themselves BAME, LGBT, Disability discrimination and social mobility are big topices. Hope this helps

Great many thanks

Great many thanks

and answers should be structure in a STAR format situation/task/activity/result - the first two should be two sentences max simple example is Becuase of the backlog I set about to fix it by............

the activity should be most of the answer and the result should be a one line and positive -.........after I did the activity productivity rose by 25%. it can be a failure but only if you can apply what is learend through that failure.

As a couple of people have said it will be very heavily based around competencies, and demonstrating times when she has shown them.

A handy thing to have in mind to help talk through an answer to those kinds of questions in a logical way in a pressured situation is 'STAR' - Situation (what the context was), Task (what she had to do), Actions (what she did), Results (what the outcome was).

There may well also be a mandatory question on equality / diversity issues. There often is in the public sector.

And one tip for video interviews is to look at the actual camera on the device she is using. It sounds obvious but most people are looking at the screen below the camera, which means that to the person interviewing, she would look as if she was looking down or sideways, which doesn't look as confident or engaging.

And having interviewed lots of people over the years, often in the public sector, the two things that would make her stand out from the crowd would be a) Enthusiasm and b) Research - not expecting she would know everything about the job but a couple of facts shows that she has had something about her and wants the job (even if those facts turn out not to be relevant when she gets there).

Oh, and good luck to her. I'm sure you may get lots of snide responses about the Government's policies, but someone in that kind of role transformed my career many years ago. Helping people into work is a great thing to do with your career.

You've failed the interview marra. You should've said 'All'.
Pleased to her that having just retired:cool:
Sure You were tongue in cheek but only a relatively small % fall into that category. They will probably be getting less grief atm while the staff concentrate their efforts on genuine triers in what must be unprecedent times for job seekers. I wish them all good luck in their quests

Signed on for a very short period just after uni (got offered a job a day after my first trip to the job centre) The bloke signing me on, who I assume would have been my work coach, was a reet patronising little shit. Not an experience I ever want to repeat. Perhaps it's a case of the wasters ruining it for those that are there for help to find work and a bit of money to tide them along
