Durham Uni

Obviously a serious problem which has not been rectified, it is now a serious threat to public health and should be closed down until it can operate in a manner which issue to students, staff and the general public.

Some real grudges against students in Durham. The weatherspoons end will have been no different with locals imcluded I'd imagine. And it will mirror other cities.....not right, bit it isn't just the uni students surely?

Close down the Uni?

There are 20,500 students at the Uni and 1013 cases reported. Closing down an entire University for less than 5% infected seems pretty severe. What about shutting down the pubs that are allowing larger groups in?

Currently covid cases in Universities is 2.3% so they are double the national average but double of something low is still something very low.

Numbers are falling rapidly, bucking the trend in the local and national average, suggesting the message is getting through to most, but sadly not all.

1700 cases the other day.
MORE than 500 students at Durham University have tested positive for coronavirus within a week, it has been revealed.

The latest figures released by the university as part of its weekly update on cases, show a total of 516 students and nine members of staff tested positive between October 15 and 22.

This is a drop in cases after 958 students and six members of staff tested positive for the virus in the previous week.
It brings the total number of cases to 1,745 since the start of term, with 20 cases among staff and 1,725 among students.
But the whatiffery club said how did you not know they werent locals?
Well if they were young adults from the pit villages, they wouldn't be contacting university security would they? 1700 cases as of the other day, they're taking the piss every other night in the city. Needs sorting out

I was going on the figures published in the link.

Can't disagree with that, but it really is the minority I'm sure you can see. Away from Covid, surely the uni take the action to make others aware of the consequences.

1700 cases isn't a minority for the county since October 5th (which is when the uni decided to start publishing data from). Northern Echo article suggested authorities are looking into things with the uni/students, so hopefully we can see an improvement. It's not good media for Durham.

5963 cases this month in county durham, population 530000. 1700ish for one place is a lot

By no means is it a good thing, but does it compare to other university cities? I just don't buy that it is heavily linked to a few Facebook videos.... But not looked at a look of the media this week, as been busy. Bit different living with family at home, compared to digs, just takes one rule breaker. Saying all that, I'm sure they will have had parties etc.

Durham Uni is the 5th highest in the country for positive tests and as a percentage its the highest.

Does this form the majority of cases in the county?

1700 out of just shy of 6000 this month isn't a majority but for a county of 530000 people it's still a high % just for one area.

not sure what the stats are for durham city alone are. someone may know better
So Durham students form a minority of cases in the area, we are both agreed.

Are cases in Durham Uni significantly lower than they were a week ago?
