i meant that the reason the racist cock wombles got politely asked to fuck off by the police was nowt to do with palestine, nowt to do with the trade unions either, or the miners gala, or because it was a left wing socialist leaning event. and especially, it had fuck all to do with them waving a union flag. they were removed because they were looking to cause bother, simple as. its not 'tit-for-tat' as no one else there was looking for bother.

the left have a history of supporting the down trodden, the persecuted and perceived injustices. therefore there is a strong pro-palestine feeling generally among left leaning people. the miners gala is generally a left leaning event. so its not completely out of this world that out of tens of thousands of lefties congregating in the same place, that one person brought a palestine flag. its not that outrageous. you see them at glastonbury and other similar events

conversely, what is actually embarrassing/baffling, is why a group of right wing racists would want to go the miners gala. that does raise questions.

i'm explaining this, however i'm sure you know all of this already

It's embarrassing. Folk jumping on a Corbyn bandwagon from outside the region. If its for local tradition go and find me 5 Palestine flags now on show in County Durham...... You'll struggle. Why don't you see these flags across the region given its mainly Labour?

You have no grasp of local history and support for just causes outside of Durham's boundaries? Trade Unionists have a history of supporting causes around the globe. It's called solidarity. What is embarrassing is you swapping your allegiance from Sunderland to Hartlepool :lol:

It's quite clear why the right wing idiots were removed. They weren't there just innocently remembering soldiers.
But the hard left have long since hijacked this event. My father and many other members of my family were miners. They were good, honest, hard working ordinary people. Scruffy militants never represented them. What I want and what they wanted was a Labour government that put people first, not their own agenda. Corbyn won't deliver that because he's too embroiled in extremism.
The DMG should be a celebration and remembrance of mining communities and their values.
The hard right and hard left can get fucked.

It has come to our attention that a video is being circulated on social media purporting to show the police escorting people from the Gala for flying the British flag. This claim is completely false.

This was a group of activists from the far-right group “For Britain” who did not receive permission to march and were seeking to disrupt the proceedings and hijack the Big Meeting for their divisive, racist agenda. Therefore, the police took the decision to escort them from the racecourse for their own safety.

The Durham Miners’ Gala is now and has always been, a celebration of trade unionism, unity and internationalism.

We ask people not to be fooled by those who drape themselves in the British flag but who are in truth, promoting a far-right, extremist agenda.

Hiding behind the British Flag is disgusting. There's a rabbit away with the whole lot of them and that was faitly apparent during the gala and in the immediate fallout on Facebook.
