Durham Loan Signing

On Trevaskis I was harsh by saying he was finished. He will play in the 50 over competition and will play some games in the T20 Blast. Just seems he will not get a game in first class cricket.
Reading what Warwickshire have said, Thompson will have to play some of the first class games in the first 2 months of the season.
This could lead to 6 batters selected, including Eckersley or Poynter as a wicketkeeper/batsman, 4 seamers and Thompson.
I got the feeling Trevaskis got written off last season as a

To me it looks like he has been written off as a viable option in championship cricket at the back end of 2019 and hasn't been seen since.

Probably give us a better balanced side. Raine, Carse and Coughlin are all capable of batting at 7; just need to take their batting more seriously. No place for Poytner in that set up though.

Has there ever been a decent off spinning all rounder?

At Durham?

Ian Blackwell & Gareth Breese.
Interesting, given that we don't normally select a spinner in early season. Are we preparing bunsen's at the Riverside?
Not good news for Trevaskis.

Looking at the time he’s due with us, we have away games at Essex and Derbyshire. I’ve no doubt they’re thinking about spin options for Essex in a fortnight given their recent success with Harmer (among others).

I don’t imagine needing too many overs of spin at the Riverside. Certainly not many more than Borthwick and Lees could provide anyway.

It’s quite obvious we’ve got a weakness when it comes to spin bowling, it’s reminiscent of the late 90’s and early 00’s where we simply didn’t have a decent spin option - the remark at the time was that we couldn’t bowl it or bat against it with any great confidence or effect and so opponents would prepare turning pitches and often pick two spinners against us.

I don’t think that’s going to be the case this time, certainly not on the same level and while we don’t have an embarrassment of riches with regards the bowling of spin, I certainly think our batsmen are now fairly well equipped to bat against it.

The noises coming out of the club are excellent in terms of the long term plan and the direction of travel. The batting is getting stronger and I genuinely feel there aren’t too many sides in the country who can boast as good a seam bowling unit as ours. Spin bowling however is the obvious area of need and that will be the biggest test for the new management in my view - getting someone in who can do a job for us in that regard.
