Dupyutrens Contracture

Had it for a few years now , defused at my age can’t be bothered having surgery , never knew the medical term for it until I read this post . Always known it as trigger finger.
Trigger or Viking finger. Prevalent in families from Celtic decent. Rife in our lot, thought I’d got away with it until a couple of years ago. Need it sorting, it affects my work.

Mate has it in his little finger on his dominant hand. Surgery hasn't helped and he's adamant he just wants the bugger amputating because it just gets in the way now.
Edit: My Great Grandfather had it too, I think my eldery Granda might have it anarl but it's hard to tell. Probably end up with it.

I asked about amputation as it is the little finger and I could live without it. Surgeon reckons it’s salvageable. Time will tell. Hope it skips your generation. It’s a pain.

Any other sufferers on here. I’m in for surgery (left hand) on Feb 1st. Would be interested to hear if anyone’s had it and how successful?
Aye had it a few years, it was the doctor that noticed it (thought it was just getting old), sent me for tests and found it was Dupuytren Contracture.

The limit for surgery here is when you can't comfortably put your hand in your pocket (my mate must have had it for years), mine hasn't developed to that so I've just lived with it, lot better since I retired.

I asked a doctor about getting it sorted in 2019, the finger had just started curling in. He said there are far worse cases and sent me packing. Last year a doctor looked at it and asked why I’d let it go so far 🙄

I know a bloke just had the little finger lopped off , consider though that most of the grip strength in your hand is generated through the little finger . So if you lift a lot of stuff 'weigh' it up .

I know 2 blokes mid 60s who have had unsuccessful ops and sadly they rather them chopped off

My da has it. It's hereditary from the mother I think. It's a Viking disease and very common in Scandinavia. He's had a few operations over the years with varying degrees of success. I think it's one of them you don't know how successful it will be until you have it done. Good luck marra.

Aye, it's on my Ma's side so I'm probably going to end up with it.

That’s how it starts. My right hand went no further but the left just carried on. Hope yours is a mild case mate.
Cheers. The lump's only appeared in the last couple of months, out of interest how long does it take before it starts affecting your fingers (if that's what it's going to do, I appreciate it might not)

Mine started on both palms when I was about 56 but only started affecting my left hand seriously after about 3 years. On a plus side the surgery although only a week ago looks successful.
