Any other sufferers on here. I’m in for surgery (left hand) on Feb 1st. Would be interested to hear if anyone’s had it and how successful?

I used to work with a guy who suffered with it.

The company built machine tools and his specialty was the linear motion side of things which generally involved a device known as a ballscrew (titters).

So he was known as 'Ball-screw Bob'.

After one of the lads noticed the issue with his 'grabbing hand' he soon became known as Bob The Claw.

Cruel? Yes

Accurate? Also yes

In Northern Europe it affects 1 in 20 males over the age of 60. Thought I’d swerved it until a couple of years ago. Left hand is like a claw, nightmare putting Nitrile Gloves on 😖

I genuinely have what seems to be this thing, but never knew what the right term was. On my right hand, down below my third finger, there's a raised surface right down my palm. It's like this for as long as I can remember, isn't painful & has never gotten worse.

However, I did need surgery about 10 years ago because the toes on my right foot were all curled up & couldn't be straightened. It got gradually worse over time & eventually became agony when I put on some footwear. Breaking in new shoes was out of the question. They broke my 4th & 5th toe in surgery & "straightened" them, so I could (eventually) put on shoes again. Worked a treat, although my right foot isn't very pretty to look at since. It's fine, like.

In the last year or so, my 2nd & 3rd toes have, every now & again, given me a little bit of discomfort. I fear that these toes will eventually give me so much trouble, that I'll have to go back for surgery.

I wonder is there some sort of connection between my hand issue & my toes.

There is. It starts on the palms but can then affect the feet in some cases although this is not the case with most.

Well, like I said, it's not once ever been an issue on my hand. Just like a raised surface. Kind of like a swollen tendon. If there even is such a thing. & it's barely noticeable at that.

My foot has been the one that's caused me problems. & even so, nothing surgery didn't sort out. I can't remember if I was in overnight or did they sent me off back home the same evening, but it was all very efficient & not too much bother. Plenty of meds took care of the pain. I was out of work for 6 weeks.

Which was nice.

Sounds about right. Surgeon says in and out the same day 6 weeks recovery minimum. My right palm is the same as yours, it does not affect me. The left went to another level.

Had it for a few years now , defused at my age can’t be bothered having surgery , never knew the medical term for it until I read this post . Always known it as trigger finger.

It seems to be hereditary, in my family at least. After the operation, as advised by the consultant/physio, do not get out of the habit of doing the required exercises/application of scar gel - uncle had it done last year and it's straightened out well and he is keeping on top of the physio and so far so good.
