Duplicate Car Key

Not sure on the specifics for an Insignia but there's a couple of ways to get a second key to work, in order of expense:
Take the transponder out of the working key and tape it up near the ignition barrel. Now any key that fits the barrel will work so you only need to get a blade cut. Not recommended for insurance purposes obviously.
Get a key with a blank transponder cut and program that to the car yourself. It has to be a blank transponder. There'll be plenty of youtube videos I'm sure.
Get the working key cloned.

sorted thanks garyswc top lads and company

Champion glad you got sorted mate, was over 3 years ago I used them for an Audi dashboard plug in style thing for £165, audi wanted nearly £400.

At the time the lad who owns the business was living in a big house on the original great park in Gosforth. I actually got the job done at his place as I had a physio appointment in the next street so it worked out easier than him coming to me. Was well impressed with the kit he had, logged onto Audi in Ingolstadt on his little laptop wire up to my car and got the codes and data etc which were then loaded into the machine in his van, I asked him what his outlay had been and I am sure it was north of £30K for all the gear. It is impossible to tell the difference between the key he made for me from the original Audi one. Needless to say his van had no livery etc.

I also asked him what the most expensive keys were, he explained that with new Lexus you cant just replace keys you have to re-do / replace the entire security software and system too, upwards of £2K from Lexus if you have lost both/all keys but he had a work around he could offer for half that! I think Range Rover were expensive too.

I remember getting one cut for my 1980 Corolla XE liftback, £2.25 from Timpsons!

Car keys and remotes are such a racket.

My 01 Passat, bought at auction, came with one key so I went to VW - £200 (bear in mind this was 17 years ago).

So I started looking at alternatives.

Eventually the cheapest way I could find was to buy a remote off ebay and take it to a key place to get a blank cut and then have it all coded at an car security specialist - grand total was £85 IIRC.

What I learned about the costs was shocking back then so it doesn't surprise me that Lexus have found a way to gouge their loyal customers out of £2k.
