DSLR for beginner

My missus (no) is keen on her photography and I'm looking to get her a camera for Xmas. Nothing too flash that will break the bank, but on the other hand something half decent. Looking at the Nikon D3300 at the moment but any advice would be great.

My son is selling a Canon 500d boxed, battery grip, few spare batteries, Canon shoulder bag might be a few other bits, not too sure £150 but it needs a lens. Hes just upgraded so he's keeping the lens from this one. Kit lens 18-55mm can be had for around £50 on fleabay or facebook pages.

Grey imports a great, as long as you don't need a warranty.
