Drunk Rail Passengers

In Japan they had lots of incidences of drunks falling onto the railway lines and wondered why it was happening so frequently. After viewing cctv they realised that many of the drunks were sitting on the seats lining the platform walls. When they stood up they were staggering forward until they fell off the platform.

The solution? They turned the seats round 90 degrees so that they faced along the platform so that drunks would fall into the next row of seats rather than on to the tracks! A pragmatic and inexpensive solution!
