Doncaster

I always think we’ll win. And I get disappointed a lot.
Our inconsistency means I keep thinking we’ve turned a corner then brought straight back down to earth when we are horrendous in the next game. My expectations are low after the last 2 games which probably means we will win.

Yes, I was wondering when somebody would post a thread about Doncaster.

Pivotal game for the season. They know that to beat Sunderland they can all but end automatic promotion and do damage to play-off aspirations.

They do have the best PPG in the league but I haven’t been all that impressed with them. Indeed that is a generic comment for the league.

Was their defeat on Tuesday just a new manager bounce for Grayson or the signs of deeper problems for Doncaster?
From what I've read they were comprehensively beaten and couldn't cope with Fleetwood's direct/long ball and physical approach once Anderson had gone off. The pitch was apparently horrendous and they are a team that like to try and get it down and play between the lines so I guess that won't have done them any favours. I think Doncaster had three or four debutants playing too so that again may have been a factor.

By all accounts, as I say, they were second best to Lincoln and Oxford too and are struggling for control and pressing in games without Whiteman as he was so pivotal to that. So whether by design or necessity they've seemingly tailored their approach for the moment.

The problem is every team talk at the SOL is the same. “There’s the stage, prove you are good enough for it”.

Most teams pass the test.

There’s no real mention on here but we’re playing them tomorrow- the team with the best PPG (that’s a thing now after last season) and the best form, based on results, in the division.

Tom Anderson who I think is their best player and was the best player on the park up here on their last visit has been ruled out (my main reason for starting this thread).

They’ve apparently been pretty poor in the last three games, since Whiteman left, and were seemingly ’lucky’ to beat Oxford and Hull and obviously lost at Fleetwood.

It will still be a tough match, Moore’s done a very good job there. I do fear Tuesday night could be the start of one of Johnson’s famous losing streaks but hopefully not.

We will smash them, mash and grind them up and tear them a new asshole

Funny you should say that, as since we've been down here Doncaster are one team that seem to underperform when we play them. They were abysmal up here under McCann despite being one of the better teams in the league at the time.

They were probably marginally the better team up here this time last year mind but we were poor.

Ordinarily there's no reason we cant win any game in this league but Johnson makes it hard for us. He has effectively crocked our best player by over playing him and choosing a formation that doesn't suit the players we have. He has signed a left wing back on loan and playing him as a left back which he isn't up to, playing a midfield 2 which doesn't suit Leadbitter and a decent winger when we already have decent wingers. So yes we can win if he picks the right team and formation but I doubt he will.
Do you think Johnson chooses whether to play Willis without advice for medics and consultation with the player ? That bit is absolute bollocks

Last time I checked we have won lots of games without signing a goalkeeper before now?

Loves an over reaction this place
the chopping and changing does neither any good, suggests manager has no confidence in either of them which will permeate into whichever keeper is chosen.

Then Summerbee will come on to tell everyone what a wonderfully insightful and brilliant signing Johnson is for the club after which we'll proceed to be utter shite against Burton struggling to a draw or defeat and he'll tell everyone we shouldn't be judging him this early yet the contradictive pretentious bell.

My question with all of these injuries is what the venerate Nick Allamby is doing. He was meant to be critical for us to improve our fitness and get less injuries. Getting to the point where I'll breathe a sigh of relief when Parky takes him to his next lower league job

They were very solid defensively against us, but think Anderson played a massive part in that, made at least one brilliant block to deny us. Matt Smith (on loan from Man City) in centre midfield has a hell of pass, opened our defence up a few times. Will be an interesting game from a neutral perspective

I must admit, I do tend to avoid this forum after a defeat or when we've turned against a manager as it just gets daft some of the things that are called out and criticised.

People just lose all rational (not the poster you've quoted in fairness who's normally one of the most level headed on here) and pick at all and sundry. It's a shame as it drowns out/undermines genuine constructive criticism of which there's plenty of opportunity for at the minute without resorting to pettiness or the extremes.
