Dog walking etiquette...

It's on a lead, not charging about,so no danger or bother to anyone, except those who allow their dog to approach without thought.

The dog in the OP wasn't on a lead and attacked the OP's dog.

I agree if the aggressive dog is on a lead it shouldn't cause an issue. If I'm walking mine off lead and see someone with theirs on lead I put him on his lead for the reason you have just said.

Am I being reasonable Ivan?

No problem pop.

It's the ignorance that winds me up. Mine's on the lead 90% of the time unless am certain he's not going to fuck off chasing anything he can see, there's livestock or other dogs. Other dog owners seem to think that if their dog runs 200yds across a field towards mine when he's on a lead & he goes ballistic at them, it's my fault. He's on a lead therefore defensive, your dog is NOT under control & yes, he's a BT & a lairy little fucker.

In the last 18 months I've had the following:-

Dogs loose where there's livestock, especially sheep.

Dogs that owners have no concept of the type of dog it is utterly incapable of controlling it. Siberian husky I belted with a big clump of mud, followed up by telling the bearded twat who had it he'd be next! Bloke with 2 x Akitas who gets dragged everywhere. To be fair they are on leads but it makes no difference in this case. Red Setter bloke who has no concept of what his dog's up to cos he can't leave his mobile from in front of his fyass.

Cockerfuckingpoo's. Your dog has the intelligence of a Poodle & the working drive of a spaniel. I haven't seen one yet that isn't batshit crazy. Too little exercise & stimulation.

Taking me derg out for a walk to calm down.

people are clueless.....I let my two off, they just follow me...sometimes they go into a bush for a little sniff or find me an 80's porn mag......anyway....some daft twat the other day brings his dog to the park.....let's it off the lead, and it comes tearing over to my two....it heads for the Cockapoo, which is fatal....I have a 37Kg wirehaired Vizsla which most dogs generally avoid as hes a big bugger...soft as owt, with a beautiful temperament......the little'un is all however and she'll stick a dog in it's place if it's being a twat....she's nailed German sheps, Ridgebacks, you name it...so anyway, I'm scrabbling for her lead as I know she's about to go postal as this thing's coming over a light speed, she give's it a proper telling off.....never bites, just rolls it over and telt....the bloke who owns it eventually catches up the 200meters it's just ran and starts moaning at me....'your dog's not very friendly is it?'....I replied....'If I ran across a field toward you as fast as I could and showed no sign of stopping what would you do?..might want to work on your call back pal'....he had no answer.

this is what pisses me off, I call my dogs and they follow.....if we're walking past other dogs, there'll be a quick sniff of bum and we're off, give them a whistle...offski........people buy dogs and immediately think they'll follow them, they won't....unless you teach them they're f***ing hooligans....

To be fair it’s fairly easy to spot one that is not going to be that friendly.

...reet, having a rant. WTF is wrong with people letting their dogs run radged around fields, unable to recall them, shouting their stupid f***ing dog's names who completely ignore them, then have a go at me cos I swing my byeut at their precious fashion accessory when it tries to attack my little derg.
My dogs stay on their leash until we get to the dog park, at that point they get to run around with all the other dogs. Most owners at this park keep an eye on their dogs, but I am not against a gentle punt with my byeut also should an owner be ignoring a situation.

Trying to give ours a little more freedom lately, I take him down the rec at sea burn... we walk round shutting the gates and then I let him off the lead... ( unless there are other dogs or kids playing) he loves the freedom but as soon as another dog comes in he's back on the lead.. he's shit scared of other dogs so if he sees one he runs straight back to me..

Swung at a big dog the last time we were down.. lady walked in ( left the f***ing gate open) and let this big hairy thing of the lead with absolutely no thought or consideration for who else was there. Mine had anticipated the big fuckers advance and had already made his way back to me... got his lead back on and this other dog ran straight for the pup... looked like it was playing at first tail wagging etc and was just trying to sniff, also I don't want mine to be scared of all other dogs all his days so thought I'd see how it went... then the big fucker turned nasty, baring its teeth and being generally aggressive so I kicked it once hoping it would stop.. it didn't so give it a proper kick the second time.. it yelped and backed off.. I swear it's owner was only alerted to the situation when she heard the yelp... obviously she had a go at me... all my fault.. :D meanwhile mine (8 month old) was that scared he pissed all over my coat...

I'd've scrubbed her fyass with the coat...

Once saw a lad pick up a staffie cross by the collar that was ragging his Yorkie about and swung it in front of a bus.

If this all sounds a little far fetched I'll add at this point that this took place in Peterlee circa 1996.

Where did this happen? Father in law just volleyed a dog in Newbittke today. Owner had it off the lead and started shouting for my fil to pick his dog up. Fil did but her dog started jumping up trying to bite the dog and him. He waited for it to jump and just volleyed it . Owner was apologetic but wtf is it off the lead for if its that aggressive.

Training mine to be off lead at the minute (only 8 months) and he does run off occasionally. Never attacks any dergs, just wants to great/play with them.

If you've got a dog it should be kept on lead in public places.

Tidied for being a decent human bean.

How you training it, any advice...mine is two years old and has no recall at all. I’ve tried taking treats, recalling him but once he’s distracted by something else he just doesn’t listen to me at all (probably just copying off the wife and bairns).

He follows me out the house and just hangs around my feet, but would love to take him off the lead up the fields but would be shitting it that he’d take off and not come back.

Mine ran out the house and went for another dog a little while back, bloke kicked him, our lass went nuts and I ended up backing her up. When things calmed down I sat and realised he was bang on to do what he did and I will apologise when I eventually see him next.

The idea is to make yourself more interesting to your dog than the outside world.

Guess you’re fucked.

One of mine can't stand having his willy sniffed by other dogs. If we see a dog we don't know or one I know he doesn't like, I'll put his lead back on. Some people are oblivious though and still let their dog run up to him on the lead, then get huffy because he growls in a "fuck off and leave me alone" kind of way at their dog while it's trying to ram it's head in his undercarriage. I feel like sniffing their crotch to see how they react.

Mine's just the same.

I wouldn't complain ;)
