Dog attack in milfield

My Mate had an English mastif, which was lovely natured a fantastic family pet and socialised with other dogs no bother. It's all down to how you train them.

I agree, I believe it's primarily the owners training or lack of it creates the dogs character

However some posters have said the dogs aren't blameless.

Dogs need exercise for a start, you get these little pikey fuckers with their staffs who think a dog walk is down to the offy and back, no wonder these fuckers go beserk there’s probably so much pent up energy and frustration...that before we even get into how they’re treated... bring back dog licenses, get people checked before hand...

Some breeds, I was always wary of when out with my hound. Pit bull types and some staffies. I remember watching a bloke on Shields beach with two staffies that tried to rip a Shitzu apart- it was awful to see. The staffy owner wasn't a tattoed thug, he was a middle-aged bloke. He couldn't believe what they'd done, he'd never seen that behaviour from them before. They took some bashing to get them to loosen their grip- little lassy screaming, horrible to see.

There's a first time for everything. It's easier if a breed is a bit more manageable should things go south rapidly.

This doesn't surprise me at all. One of my old dogs was savaged by a bull terrier type about 10 year ago. The scratter whose dog it was held onto it's collar to try and seperate, I held onto my dogs collar and I was batting it til it let go for a millisecond.
The pulling of the collars got them apart in that briefest of seconds. If I was on my own I'd have had a dead dog.

Terrifying how strong and resilient they are.

As it was, I was left with my dog having stitches and a drain in it's neck, the scratter dog with a severely injured eye and a feud with my neighbours that was part of the reason we moved. And I had a sunken knuckle for about a year.
Always far more wary now.
Jesus wept that sounds awful mate. Glad things turned out for you.

Well the middle-aged bloke must have been stupid then, all terrier-type dogs are capable of being aggressive. Hardly suitable as pets really.

Laws should be introduced that force people to apply for a license if they want to own a dog. There are far too many wankers in this country.

Absolutely correct, totally agree. And if any incidents like the story in the echo occurs, the person loses the dog license. They are banned from keeping dogs. The owners would either be forced to control the dog, or lose the right to own one.

I'd go even further and introduce a mandatory "Dog Awareness" training course, paid for by the dog owner, just to clarify that they know what the fuck they're doing.

Absolutely. Something needs to be done as there's too many incidents of dog attacks occurring.
Not just dog attacks but shitty owners anarl. A mate of mine's dog is absolutely crawling with fleas, so I asked "when did it last have a bath mate?". He replies, "well put it this way.. I've had the dog for 11 years, and it was 3 when I got him, and afaik it's NEVER had a bath".

Poor fucker man.

Edit: EX mate of mine.

Well a whole raft of antisocial dog behaviour from the owners could potentially tackled that way.
As well as, health/ hygiene for the dog itself as you've highlighted
