Do you guys budget?

I have gone through the last 30 years in the same manner. Never spend my than I can afford to and to save for the future when I could.
We’ve seen our income rise as a couple and it hasn’t changed our approach.

We still provide support in some form to our adult kids as both our parents did for us. We don’t have great wants and save quite well now, especially as our mortgage is paid off.The next phase is retirement in 5 years.

Couldn't agree more with your last line. Both systems are weighted heavily towards the Wife/Mother and a lot of people have paid the price in both areas.

Could be worse I suppose. In some countries you're liable for child support even if the kid isn't yours biologically, imagine finding out your missus was shagging about and then having to pay her money to support the kid of the bloke she messed about with?

Might be boring —-> Due to the plague situation, I’ve just been help run some Personal budgeting sessions at work.

Repeatedly, we are getting people getting in more and more debt. But when helping with their budgets, they’ve got £40/mnth mobile bills, £15/mnth tv subscription, really expensive utilities and broad band, £250 Ppc car etc. Really opened my eyes how people who think they’re struggling aren’t aware of what value they’re getting for their money (or what they consider necessities in life in some cases).
Yes, probably comes from having not a lot as a kid. Regardless of what i earn, i never spend it. I see it as being materialistic.

The first bit isn’t gonna happen as I’ve hit the pay ceiling I’m quite flush these days man. Debt plan will be finished in March. It’s taken 10 years but I’ve still managed to get out every week. If you’ve always been a goer-outer, a night is is pretty much essential for your sanity.

Some people just don’t have our bon viveur spirit. A work with a lad who has his house, new car and new wife, but on his stag night he could only muster 2 friends. Tragic that like.
Exactly Herbs, people like you and me are well ahead of the game.;)

Something's you cannot budget for. My wife is being blackmailed by people in prison where my son is and failure to pay up will mean consequences for him. Personally for my wife to suffer for mistakes made by his fiancée and him is grossly unfair. As for the authorities and the 2 of them I would be just pleased if the texts for money would end permanently and I could go to a couple of funerals. Extreme in any circumstances but more dangerous than Covid-19. I will never speak to either of them again for what they have put my wife through and still are. We are talking money which is off the scale.

Sounds horrendous mate.

We have a budget per month for the bills and household expenses and then we have the surplus each month. We save for the kids every month and then try and save for us as well. Sods law says that every time we get a decent amount of money saved up something happens and we need to use the money for that, and not what we are saving for. To that end, we are better off getting credit we can definitely afford the repayments for, for the bigger purchases. This repayment then is added to the household bills. We are looking to get a new kitchen next year and there is no way we would be able to save all the money up for that without something happen where we would be spending it.

Disagree on the night out there David. A good Saturday afternoon session though...

Pretty good with money not bothered about brands (but end up wearing a few due to where i work and the discount) my only real vice is golf i spend a fortune ...The only time i question a purchasei've made is when i send a Prov1 hurtling into the River Wear, dread to think how much money i've sent into there

Golf is massively expensive but at least its a hobby you enjoy (or not ) Not a waste like a git flash car on tick.

When my debt was 6 figures, I estimate that a third of it was interest.

I presume that 6 figures included a mortgage!
These days I pretty much have a budget. It’s in my head but I know what the outgoings are, what goes in the joint account and what I keep back in a savings account.

Im obsessed with savings though and could probably pay a bit off the mortgage if it wasn’t for the desire to keep a big lump tucked away for a rainy day

An afternoon session is just a night out that starts earlier. I never go home any earlier.

He won't be posting on here for a while, but it's only his mother that will keep him alive. How many grand your teeth are worth is debatable but I don't think Buckfast or weed are worth dying for. He must be scared witless to blackmail his mother and not a good combination when facing assault charges. Aye I warned him where he would finish up. Me and my wife argue but although I respect her need to help him he and his complainer better hope I die first.

I don't think it's a good idea to keep paying, it's a nightmare of a situation and hope there is some resolution for you soon 👍
