Dissent shouldn't be a sending off

I don't know, I didn't even know you were playing early.

Without having seen it I feel confident that the referee acted in good faith as I don't think referees are corrupt.

Perhaps your player was consistently showing dissent so the final act in your eyes may not feel sufficient to warrant a card, but like players who commit lots of niggly fouls, the referee said enough is enough and gave him a card that he deserved. You have to be a bit of a bonehead to get a second card in a game so your anger and disappointment really needs to go to the player, not the ref and not anyone who disagrees with your view.
I’ll file this one under: ‘commenting on something he knows nothing about’

Ta

Red card for dissent ruins the game without anyone being hurt. Should be a hefty fine, not a red. Happens all the time with players hollering in the ref's face with no action taken, often ref just laughs it off.

Ref should be more bothered about booking players for pulling back and kicking the ball away.
Hmmmm..So you in your workplace swears and tell your boss a name and won't get sacked.

Blimey.. More dumbing down and abuse and swearing acceptable...

Feel sorry for you if you think this.

No respect have you.

You won't go far in life I feel.

I feel like this is only a conversation because it's happened to us now but i can see the sense.

Instead of being a yellow, which nine times out of ten makes no odds, it should be a massive fine
I don’t think, ‘that was a f@@@king fowl’ is decent personally.

You're a f***ing idiot is at the ref. It's a f***ing foul is not swearing at the ref. It's just swearing
But it’s still at the ref in an agressive manner waving his arms around etc. the fact is, he should just keep his mouth shut, especially when he’s already on a yellow. He better learn from this as we need him on the pitch
It’s the fact not one boro player got booked for it and throwing the ball away. Inconsistency is the problem here.
Exactly, the ref was shite, so don’t give him an excuse to be a dick.

You sound a bit of a tit to be honest.

It's not. I just said that.
I agree consistency is a big concern.

In terms of thousands have said it before - the rules have been tightened significanrly this season and its been made clear to all teams and players. Looking at previous seasons is irrelevant. Dan Neil is also by no means the only player to receive a card this season for dissent under the new rules either. Whether others get away with it or not its quite simple, he took the risk and he was punished. He is accountable for his actions.

There's a difference between discussion and dissent e.g. questioning the referee's decision in an agressive/confrontational manner. And as an aside, the rugby rules are very strict. Their guidelines state saying to the ref "are you having a laugh" is worthy of a red card which seems rather severe to me but there you go.

When I was refereeing rugby fake applauding was also potentially a dismissal offence.

My point was if football wants that they have to give opportunities to discuss things with refs. At the minute the refs dismiss and pay no attention the majority of the time. So you end up with frustration.

It definitely should.

It should have been stamped out years ago like in rugby.

Grown men screaming foul language at refs is disgusting, frankly.
Agree. Kids footys bad enough copying their heroes diving n feighning injury never mind screaming in a refs face without action.

Would the op like to be told to fuck off at work?

Refs not at fault here, Neils thick as shit at times.

If we'd stamped out on dissent years ago like we should have we would have well behaved sportsmen on the field, as in rugby. Not the entitled brats we have now.
Shite. Just seen PTR's post above

Good job not another person on that field swore in 90-odd minutes then. What a throughly wholesome set of lads

I've just jumped in to the end of this thread, but there were a number of bookings for dissent today. Neil, Greenwood, Clarke off the top of my head, possibly others.

"Whenever more than one player approaches the referee, at least one of those players, and potentially more, will be shown an automatic yellow card.

Practically, any player that runs from a distance to approach the match officials will be booked."
He didn't run and he was booked before the players crowded the ref. It was a shocking decision. Must be a numpty or favoured Boro.

That little arsehole Trippier would be sent off every game in first 10 mins if what Neil did was dissent.

What nobody appears to have mentioned is that the clearly planned and implemented Boro tactic throughout the first half was to take turns to block, pull, trip, obstruct etc Clark at every opportunity

We might have got a dozen free kicks, but not got another dozen we were due and how many Boro players were booked? I don’t remember one but there might have been someone I missed.

What all these Rugger Johnnies probably don’t get is that in football matches, at most levels of the game, there are verbals between Ref and players. I have even been sworn at by referees. If every time someone said what Neil is alleged to have commented games would end 5v6

Sending Neil off for complaining “that was a f***ing foul Ref” was completely disproportionate and actually ruined what could have been a good game

And it was also clear on a number of other occasions various Boro players were commenting directly to the Ref and not always on their own

Having said that we should have used better tactics when down to 10 men

Look forward to seeing all the games finishing 5-a-side if that's the level that refs deem cardable.
Shocking decision from the convict.
