Dissent shouldn't be a sending off

This is exactly the point. Nothing wrong with the decision to give him his 2bd yellow.. But why the inconsistency, why pick that 1 to give a yellow out.

Wonder how many more yellow carda will be given out for dissent today.

can only assume Neil had done it before and had already been warned. as it didn't make any sense he decided on that particular moment to make his point yet let countless others go

that or he'd changed his mind about the first yellow and took the opportunity to make it right in his head by sending him off there

nowt would surprise me with refs these days

If saying *that’s a fuckin@ foul ref* is dissent majority of players pick up at least one yellow card every game…( if applied)

Which one of those is dissent though? There’s nowt in there about swearing. It explains that dissent is one of those things. Which one did he do?

Dissent by word or action. Gesturing at the referee waving his arms and shouting ‘that’s a f***ing foul’ at the referee is dissent.

I genuinely can’t understand why this is even debatable! It might be a fair argument to say well why didn’t the ref give more, and there’d be merit to that argument. But what Neil did is dissent. And it was sackless

The ref didn’t seem to have any idea of discretion. He could have given Neil a warning seeing as he was already on a yellow.

The ref waved play on when Clarke was being deliberately held back but didn’t go back to book their player. He later gave Roberts a yellow in a similar situation but one when their man was looking to go down.

People say var is ruining the game. Tbh i think as football fans we can handle and accept decisions what are made but when it seems rules are different depending on the match/set of officials tjat simply cant happen. If its in the rules to book for dissent, time wasting, kicking ball away. Book players, but do it all the time. Not just when you feel like it.

"Whenever more than one player approaches the referee, at least one of those players, and potentially more, will be shown an automatic yellow card.

Practically, any player that runs from a distance to approach the match officials will be booked."
31' Ba is fouled and given a yellow. Several 'boro players approach the referee to protest. None of them are yellow carded. I'm sure there are other occasions.

The referee has to be consistent. Neil was unfairly treated given 'boro players were able to approach the referee and protest decisions without a card but he gets sent off for it. Idiotic decision by the ref.

You're annoyed because it's happened to us, which is why you've only brought this up now but you have to punish the player there and then for mouthing off, not down the line. If it was a Boro player mouthing off you'd be rightly screaming for a yellow card

Ultimately he's sat there now thinking he's cost his team in a (sort of) derby match which should be eating away at him more than a fine would if he's got any ounce of professionalism about him.
I wasnt the one who brought this up and I posted that this is only a conversation because its happened to us.

I feel dissent, and i feel very strongly about diving, needa to be stamped out and this a first offense one match ban, second time 3, 3rd time 5-10 etc ramping up approach would do far more than a very very occasional yellow
The rules are fine, it's the players that keep breaking them that are to blame.

The rules are barely followed. Id agree if it was more common

Foul and abusive language is a RED card offence.

Dissent is a yellow. I'd personally be very careful if I already received a yellow, particularly with (what appeared to be) a useless Ref 🙄

This is a great point. If you believe to be shit and poor with his decision making ability, why would you run the risk of being on the end of one of his decisions by marching, waving and barking at him? It defies sense

When 'boro player approach the ref to protest the yellow given for tripping Ba on 31' and none are carded, would it not be safe to assume that the ref isn't going to send you off for doing the same?
