Dissent shouldn't be a sending off

I've been to plenty of games where a player has been sent off for dubious decisions and Yes, whichever team you are supporting....., it ruins the game.

Isn't it about time that like Rugby and other sports we have an Orange Card and Sin Bin where a player can be punished for say 15 minutes or so....I know this may make the team down by a man, defend for 15 minutes or so but this would not ruin the game for the Supporters....some of whom have travelled miles to get to the game!!!........ Personally, I wouldn't have blamed the 40,000 plus Sunderland Fans if they chose to leave, as it wasn't a (competitive) Football Match they were watching in the Second half Today

Just a thought............
Would you have walked out if Middlesbrough had a player sent off for dissent and the game became uncompetitive.

Your anger should be directed towards the player with the potty mouth. They've all been told how to conduct themselves at work.

Interestingly, if you're going to make a rugby comparison, any abuse of the referee is an immediate red card not a yellow like in football. Rugby seem to manage fine with that and so should football.

As far as I'm concerned, Dan Neil ruined the game today not the rules.

Red card for dissent ruins the game without anyone being hurt. Should be a hefty fine, not a red. Happens all the time with players hollering in the ref's face with no action taken, often ref just laughs it off.

Ref should be more bothered about booking players for pulling back and kicking the ball away.
Ehhh? He got 2 yellaz man!

Personally, I never walk out on My Team(s) but Yes if it was Boro I would still have believed that the game was spoilt.

Last Season went down to watch the Mighty Monkey Hangers against Crewe and the game was spoilt by the referees knee jerk red card.....and Pools lost easily 3-0 when prior to the sending off it was an even competitive game, like Today's game.

The problem is that the rules are not consistently applied. Coburn has three professional fouls and no booking prior to this. Do the lads have to guess each week which ones they are going to get booked for and which the ref might employ some sensible management for? I think Neil's booking is the first of the game for dissent.

The thing is, if players know that dissent is punishable, then they need to get control of themselves. Referees never ever change their mind.

In a game like this you'd think the first course of action would be talking to the player and captain.

Spot on. This is what riles football fans. The refs just pick and choose.

The guidelines are clear.
Definite yellow
"Whenever more than one player approaches the referee, at least one of those players, and potentially more, will be shown an automatic yellow card.

Practically, any player that runs from a distance to approach the match officials will be booked."

My take is that it’d be ok if it is was actually punished for every instance. Clearly consistency is a big issue. It’s too easy for us to feel aggrieved when it goes on all game every game with no consequences and then boom, we lose our main man.

Roberts should have been booked for similar whining.

IMO dissent should be a 5 or 10 min sin bin.

Players know the craic and this season dissent by players and benches is being cracked down on

Pure stupidity by Dan Neil.....

It definitely should.

It should have been stamped out years ago like in rugby.

Grown men screaming foul language at refs is disgusting, frankly.

Bloody hell man. You can’t rewrite the rules because we had a man sent off.
