Disrespect towards Referees.

The decision last night was a mess like, last minute and sent grealish through on goal at 3-3 (yes he may have possibly missed but still). He initially waved play on and as the ball reached grealish he decided to pull it back. I'm all for respecting referees, but I think even I would be losing it at the ref for that
In real time I thought he would have been flagged offside. That was my intial reaction. never saw it again to confirm.

I get they get abuse flung at them but players sometimes get 40,000 fans screaming at them shouting abuse every 2 weeks ( as far as I am aware it doesn't stop kids wanting to be footballers ). I said earlier I agree Haaland went over the top mate but referees are so wrapped up in cotton wool it's unbelievable, they never come out and talk candidly about a mistake they make ,all you get is a statement from PGMOL.

You're right refs should come out . But they aren't exactly wrapped up in cotton wool. Players have been treating refs like utter shite for years

Yeah totally mate but it's something that has built up and built up , I think it's the amount of inconsistencies that is pissing people off mostly.

Imagine trying to keep control of 22 pampered arseholes whose list of priorities is topped by trying to cheat their fellow professionals and the paying public in the name of winning at all costs. They’ve got no chance man. Players and managers should take a long hard look at themselves and their behaviour before referees should ever be put in front of a camera to explain themselves.

So if that happened in a final or Man city needed 3 points to win the league what then ? I agree that Haaland went over the top but the ref made a horrendous mistake also. I agreed previously that the PGMOL are a piss take as well. If a ref makes a bad decision they get taken out for a week ( wow) I'm guessing they on a salary anyway ( might be wrong).

thats football, and thats life. stop acting like a f***ing baby when something out of your control goes against you. it was a mistake, everyone has acknowledged that. whether he thought that haaland had messed up the ball forward, grealish was offside, or didnt see grealish, or thought the ball had gone to the keeper... who knows. one thing is for sure, it was a refereeing error. and another thing for sure is that screaming in his face isn't going to change the decision. just get on with the game

another thing that is for sure, when kids watching on TV see players acting like that, and diving around like fannies, they mimic it schoolboy level and it eats away at the game slowly.

once the ref has blown that whistle, whether you agree with him or not, whether its an obvious mistake or not, the players need to get on with the game. and if not, send the fuckers off

all this excusing it just because it was a bad call in a big game, does nothing but perpetuate the problem

Well it's not gonna change anytime soon mate unfortunately.

it does piss people off, but thats life. the refs are human, not robots. the game is subjective. loads of decisions are 50/50 in every game, and no two decisions are ever the same

you either accept refs are human and make mistakes, or you accuse them of being perfect but making mistakes on purpose

Totally get that and again what Haaland done was totally wrong and that's the worrying part kids gonna mimic it which is so sad. Russell Foster league is gonna see a ref sparked out you can see it happening a mile off but again refs are just not made accountable for their actions.
I’d be in favour of 2 referees on the pitch
Good shout

Bang on.

I have a six year old son who has just started playing for his first team. Before that I was taking him to Saturday morning kids football club. There was one morning and a new lad was there with his Dad, every time anyone went anywhere near him he threw himself to the floor and rolled around like he’d been shot. His Dad was really embarrassed and kept telling him to stop doing it. I said to the Dad after a few times of him doing it ‘does he watch PL football on the telly?’ To which he replied ‘yes’. I said ‘there you go then’. Footballers really need to up their game in my opinion and realise that they are role models to thousands and thousands of young impressionable children.

Which is shameful.

Yeah I agree it's shameful mate and even worse reading that about kids rolling around on the floor 😔. Commentators don't help either when you hear them say he's felt contact so went down as if it's acceptable.

If someone can tell me how the current attitudes towards referees is supposed to be making the game better I’d love to hear the genius explain it to me

100%. There are many many things we can and should do before a referee ever stands in front of a camera to explain a genuine mistake. We could start with the point you’ve made there. There is no such thing as entitled to go down. If the contact makes you go down then great. If it doesn’t make you go down, then you’ve made a conscious decision to go to ground. Therefore you are cheating. Let’s drill this point home.

What “accountability” would you like

Totally agree it needs to change mate but honestly can you see it happening? When I played on a weekend not that long ago if I had went down for feeling contact I would have had the piss ripped out of me and rightly so.

Explaining why they made certain decisions etc or maybe just same as rugby where everyone can hear.
A rugby ref has just withdrawn from upcoming internationals because the abuse is so bad. Okay I’d be in favour of that too, but come on we need to support these guys better. ATM they’re just getting hammered and seem petrified to just referee the game.
