Disrespect towards Referees.

Yes they're well paid etc, but why do they have to put up with so much verbal abuse.

There is a photograph up on the BBC website at the moment of Haaland snarling in the ref's face after a decision was made he didn't agree with.

Imagine if Haaland made a really bad challenge, and the ref was in his face snarling, telling him what he thought of it before brandishing the red card, sounds daft but it would be no different to what Haaland did to him.

Dan Neil sent off for raising an eyebrow. Money talks…

Did you see the decision he made though

Getting silly now like. I think the players smell that refs are on the ropes with these recent VAR stuff and are pushing their luck. PGMOL are making a pigs ear of this season and obviously the players are trying to have them doubting themselves.

The culture among fans, players, and coaches alike regarding referees and their, let's face it, inevitable mistakes has gotten very toxic in recent years. There's been an increased level of scrutiny on referee's decisions since the introduction of VAR, which hasn't been helped at all by VAR refs somehow dropping clanger after clanger themselves. Doesn't look good for the future of refereeing in football when the attitude towards them has gotten so openly hostile.

If that decision went against us and our players done nowt then the majority of our fans would be asking why no one pulled the ref up about it haha. The decision was a disgrace. The ref knew he fucked up, otherwise he would have booked players for their reaction

I think the thing is, Rugby refs seem generally more intelligent, they also explain their decisions. Our refs make baffling decisions even with the benefit of VAR therefore when winning is so important and there's so much at stake, inevitably it makes those impacted, angry.
Yeah rugby refs are so much more open than football refs , it's like cloak and dagger stuff with the PGMOL at times.

😂

The decision last night was a mess like, last minute and sent grealish through on goal at 3-3 (yes he may have possibly missed but still). He initially waved play on and as the ball reached grealish he decided to pull it back. I'm all for respecting referees, but I think even I would be losing it at the ref for that

It was a terrible decision, but the incident is exactly why I think they need to introduce retrospective bans for serious cases of dissent like that. Haaland went on ridiculous.

Yeah no excuse for the way he went on, yes it was a stupid decision to pull the play back and yes I get it he's caught up in the emotion of the game but haway man Erling simmer down sunshine

Agree.
Refs are well paid, they're professional and i reckon some of them really like being centre stage in the Premier League, and let's face it you need big cojones to do the job, but the abuse could be putting a lot of talented officials off.

At least Haaland was booked. Good to see the consistency

Would love to see a list of the yellow cards issues for dissent this season.

And agree by the way, the snarling and abuse in the refs face these days is disgusting. All the more I was pissed off with the Neal second yellow for a red though. No point issuing one every 3000th time a player does it. Either book players or don’t.

Dunk is another example
