Disney world Florida

We are travelling back today after 3 weeks. Id never been before and the posts are right on how expensive if it. As it happens I've drank less on holiday than at home haha ( speaks volumes about my work life like haha )

Would like to have taken kids when younger but couldn't afford it however they seem to have had a good time at 13 and 15. We've preferred Universal to Disney like , although Guardians of the Galaxy was class at Epcot.

Hotel was just off International Drive and was the pits too be honest but saved loads not being Disney Resort haha. Tipping was mad like, in the end though just tipped if I thought they deserved it as found myself stuck in a trap of Tipping as I thought I had to. Turning point was going to Sports Bar / Arcade place and being asked if I wanted to tip when all I had done was buy ticket things for the bairns. Wtf am I Tipping for?

Overall , it's a dear do but glad I did it. Not into doing it again personally and probs couldn't afford it with gas and elec ha. Overall spent 4.5 k in 3 weeks for family of 4. Portion sizes are too big as well, ne wonder they're all fat

The more I read about Disney the more glad my son never wanted to go when he had the opportunity.

It never occurred to you that all them fat people might be your fellow Brits?
Obesity and overweight per capita in the UK mirrors those in the USA but don’t let the facts get in the way of your bigotry.

Spot on! I live 90 minutes from there and have no desire to go. Taken the bairn a couple of times and if she’s happy I’m happy but I’m content to be her chauffeur and companion. Thank god she’s not arsed about the rides. People who lash out thousands to come over and spend large parts of the day standing a queue in the sweltering heat for a ride that last for two minutes.

We were back in Orlando in May for our 2020 holiday which had been rescheduled many times.

The impact of the reduced FX was significant but prices had also soared regardless. Service levels are way down on what we have previously experienced - staff don't give a shit! Not enough staff and not trained properly

To be fair he is right about portion sizes. I don’t eat huge meals and have always struggled with the size of them in the States.

There is not a single thing that appeals to me to go on this type of holiday, it just seems like an entire holiday full stress and constantly queuing.

Thankfully my two youngest also share my thoughts, because I priced the whole holiday up expecting them to want to go, and nearly shit my pants at the cost! 😳

This is true, but I think car-dependence and lack of exercise are bigger factors for many Americans. Remember, we aren’t on holiday when we are here; we aren’t eating most of our meals in restaurants.

And for balance, Americans who move to the UK are usually shocked by how much y’all drink.

Probably because we don’t need to take out a second mortgage for a few pints

These are my memories too. Getting trainers that were £90 here (£140 now) for $40 in outlets. Food & drink was a snip too. Hotels, events, car hire.

Wtf has gone on over there  once the covid freedom honeymoon period wears off, the furlough savings runs out & the cost of living kicks in so many of these places charging through the nose will be in for a big shock.
Yeah they were the good times and good memories but like you say lots of these places are going to price themselves out of things soon
1st time we went was in early 2008, it was basically 2 dollars to the pound, easy to work out + quids in 👍
Yeah totally remember and loved it back then used to get sone class trainers in the Nike outlets

Anyone done a Disney Cruise from Port Canaveral?

We leave in late Oct for 7 nights on the Fantasty ship.

Any tips would be appreciated.

There nowhere better if your kids are into all that stuff. I never queued for more than 15 minutes, but that was pre COVID and now it sounds like everything has gone to shit.

A fortnight staying on site at Caribbean Beach for the 5 of us in 2018 was £6500 including all flights, full meal plans which included character dining every day, tickets etc. That was in June though, but not too had all things considered.

Caribbean Beach was even better last time as you can get direct to Epcot and Hollywood Studios on the Skyliner.

It's good for bairns like the parks. Even enjoy the big rides as an adult but the queues are a pain.

Even if pay for those queue jumpers was still a canny wait.

Love the orange juice there and the bait.

Again, I don't know where you're drinking in the US. But outside tourist areas and the 10 or so largest cities, even craft beer on draft isn't hard to find for $5 a pint, and that's with heavy taxation of alcohol in most places in the US. Swill is notably cheaper. The real issue is tipping on top of that.

We went at Easter for 2 weeks earlier this year, it was the third rearrangement of the holiday we’d originally booked in 2019.

A lot of truth on this thread, prices are very high and the Disney Parks have lost a bit of magic with the closure of Fastpass, the introduction of park bookings and huge queue times in busy periods.

That said, we still really enjoyed the trip. We stayed in a villa in Emerald Isle (10min from Magic Kingdom) and our strategy ended up being hanging round the pool and using genie+ to stack rides and then going in the late afternoon and evening with pre booked rides and then low queue times at the end/fireworks time.

We also stayed a few days at Hard Rock so enjoyed the queue jumpers at Universal. The kids really enjoyed Universal, but if you want to spend the evening in Citywalk you better book months out.

We’ve already said we’ll go back when the kids are mid teens, which is thankfully 5 years out as you’ll need that long to save up!

Did it about 15 year ago and it was amazing but things might of changed since then

To be fair its typical Disney and you want for nothing, The ship and food was amazing

You can still get cheap pints in New York outside the main tourist traps.

Disneys went to shit now. Everything’s an extra and a lot of family’s seem to have been priced out.

We went in May this year and only did Universal and SeaWorld and had a good time. We did however notice how much the price of meals had gone up and like previously mentioned on here the outlets ain’t cheap anymore. I’d still gan back like
